WTB: Memory Board installation. - 23/03/2005 17:45

I think I'm going to be in the first batch of orders for a memory board and would like to see who is willing to do installation services. I may also like to get a light kit install so I can get some of those new Firefox buttons...

Anyone offering these services in the US? Eutronix comes to mind, but I'm sure there are others too. And I'm probably not the only one who needs these services.

I would also like to know who is willing to offer installation service for the memory boards. This is one upgrade I have really been looking forward to.

I asked Stuart (Eutronix) about installing them, about a week ago. He said that he will be installing them and Patrick had been in touch.

Awesome, I think (hope) my request was one of the first 32 also. Looks like my player is going back to visit Eutronix in Lousiana.

Now, how to prevent the shipping company from trying to tear off all the RioCar labels from the box... Double box it, I guess, but I love collecting shipping stickers on my player box. Pretty soon it'll look like one of those classic traveling salesman suitcases.

I'm asking Patrick to ship my board to whomever I get to install it. Maybe he'll be able to ship a batch to Stuart and save a few $$ on shipping from the UK (vs. shipping to 12 seperate addresses in the US).

When Mark Lord worked on my player, he had me strip the player down to the board. It saved work for him and made shipping cheaper. I'll probably end up doing that again.

It looks like we might have to wait to see the installation instuctions before anyone can quote us on a price.

The main reason I use my RioCar instead of my empeg mk2 is because of the RAM. But now I'm considering putting the memory board in my empeg... but because it's a bit older, should I instead invest in the newer RioCar ?

As I mentioned before, I can provide the soldering/installation services for some fee ( hey, I need to justify my solder and electricity costs )

I prefer the Mk2 over the Mk2a, overall. Except for the 12MB vs 16MB thing.

Why is that? Build quality? Sound?

I'm with Mark, and I like the better case -- it just feels more solidly built -- and the fact that it doesn't say "Rio" anywhere, either on the case or on the display. I suppose now that Rio is nothing more than empeg was, I don't have a problem, but at the time, I had a major hate on for Diamond/Rio/etc.

I could always put my empeg lid on my Rio and tell the LogoEditor that I own an empeg.

I love Linux, but I never liked having a "cute" penguin on a $1200.00 mp3 I bought.

It's been a while since I looked, but I seem to remember that there wasn't any way to get rid of one of the Rio logos. I never tried really hard, though, as I preferred the other case and didn't need any extra memory.

Perhaps that was an older software version. It's been quite a while since I used Tony's Logo Editor to slap some custom static boot images on there, and when I did I chose the "I have an empeg" option. Now the only place I see the Rio logo is stamped on the top panel of the case. Even the Logo, Tubular, Tux Much, and Tux too Much visuals have all changed from "Rio" to "empeg."

Well, then, it's probably that I'm just an idiot.
