4 sale: memory upgrade/board, lighting, digital installation services - 26/03/2005 03:48

Hi.
I'm offering installation/assembly services for the memory upgrade (the old-fashioned way of stacking), the new board based memory upgrade, lighting kit assembly/installation and digital board assembly/installation services.

My resume/referrals is my empeg.
The following has been done to it:
- 64 MB upgrade (memory credit: Paul)
- Heatsink
- variable speed fan control (schematics credit: Frank)
- Lighting kit (credit: Eutronix)
- Digital sound board (credit: Eutronix)

See the attachment for pictures.

If you are interested, please PM me.

Disclamer: in no way I'm trying to compete with venerable Eutronix. I only need to finance my own empeg toys/upgrades

Just finished my spare unit memory upgrade, plus pimped SE_Sport_Driver's empeg with the following:
64 MB memory board upgrade;
Lighting kit installation;
Heat sink fabrication/installation (used Thermagon phase change material);
System fan fabrication/installation;
Eutonix's hard drive cable modification (necessary for the fan installation)

I let Brad give review of installation

Well, I don't have the player yet, but I can say that I'm very impressed so far. Your prices are VERY reasonable and your work was lightning quick. You got the memory board and light kit installed right away after my player arrived. And once we sorted out the details via PMs over what other work to do, you got my heat sink and fan done fast as well.

As a bonus, he is mailing me a floppy disk with photos on it detailing how to re-assemble the player. The fan install and modified drive cable require a few extra steps to removing the top lid, so the photos will really help!

I'll report back once my player comes in!

We will be waiting for your report, SE.

Be sure to let us know about the service, work, and packaging also! After all these are our babies!

Yikes! I hope this isn't in lieu of a report:

Peakmop has been really cool about this whole thing. The player is currently on its way to him so he can check it out. Maybe something got goofed, maybe I put the drives in wrong. I didn't want to post about it until he had a chance to look at it. His return time was super fast, his prices are great and he treated my empeg with care. He even packed my box in another box to send it to me! At one point, I over paid him by 10 dollars and he refunded me the money even though I never noticed.

He's been very honest and easy to work with. I kept telling him how much I appreciated him "pimping my empeg". He has two players in his posession with the same mods (plus a digital out board) that are running just fine. Maybe my player was "sick" from all those low battery warnings I had a while back.

I certainly don't want to scare anyone off before we figure out what's going on.

SE,
Did you need to borrow my spare empeg while yours is in the shop, or do you have a spare?

Thank you very much but I do have a spare (thank God.) I actually have TWO spares and want to sell my Mk2 (original empeg).

Re: 4 sale: memory upgrade/board, lighting, digital installation servi - 16/07/2005 02:59

Brad's empeg is working now. An apparent short between hard drive cradle and one of fan module components caused a problem. I didn't have any spare hard drives and cradle to test the proper clearance at the installation time.
The components have been replaced and everything works just fine.
This time the unit gets full "smoke" test before it goes out back to Brad.

Thank you so much! You've been so cool about all of this and took care of me very fast. I'm going to do a complete write up very soon of all the work you did includeing the "Install Disk" you included with pictures of how to reassemble my player!

Me too! I hope Peakmop gets a lot of people seeking upgrades too. This is probably a "worst case" type event, and he's handled it really well. I'm going to go from a smoking, cooked empeg to "like new" in less than a week. Can't beat that!

Check out how he rigged my drive cable!

I don't know what to look for to see the fan controller, but that's a pretty cool face I see in the scratches on the right side.

I have been considering doing a memory upgrade for a rio central. It currently has 2 chips (16M total) and 2 empty pads. Could you give me a ballpark price for chips & installation for a) 2 more chips (using the empty pad) and b) 6 more chips (2 on the empty pad, 4 stacked)?

Thanks.
