In all honesty, the serial numbers that were on stickers on the bottom of the empeg have worn out long ago. i wanted to post them for everyones safety and authentication, however, they are worn.

The usual 'protocol' is to post a photo of your empeg's screen displaying its serial number. That way potential buyers see both that the merchandise is (or at least was
) there, alive and well, and its 'identity'.

I didnt know you could check the serial at the boot up, i loaded a custom boot screens that has a plane crashing into a building and the the ambulance comming to get em. I usually never looked at the screen until the playlist was loaded.

The skepticism is rather stale. I know someone wants it, lets do business. Offer me a price and we can talk. theres no bids on it as of yet so it could be yanked at any time for a person who is serious buyer.

I did not want to suggest that any suspicion in this particular case is called for, and anyway, a good deal of mutual trust is needed to complete a transaction that is not 'face-to-face' even if details like serial number are beyond doubt. I just stated the usual procedure.

Sure sounds like a scam of some kind to me...

also, if theres a 'protocol' for posting a sale, where is it written? boards usually have a FAQ right? is it in there?

There is no defined way to sell an empeg here, but it has become customary to show the unit on with the about screen displaying the serial number. It's just a little odd that someone would be unable to provide this because the unit is already boxed-up. Couple that with quite a few scams in the past (for such a small community), new poster here, and new ebay account and things look a little off.
It's also odd that you say here that you have no money to install the empeg, but in the ebay auction you state you don't even have a car to install the empeg into. I guess you would have to spend money on a car, but that's a bit of a stretch.
If you could provide a pic of the about screen with serial, selling it to someone who reads these boards would be a lot easier for you. Ebay is another story, but a $333 starting bid for a 20GB unit isn't exactly a door-buster these days.

If you expect someone to go out on a limb, shell out that kind of money to someone they don't know, and has not been on the board long, and newbie on ebay, I think you would WANT to unpack the thing, power it up and photo the serial number (clearly) and post it. What is that 15 minutes total? Don't get me wrong...we all love you an trust you, and think you are a very honest person, however, I am a conservative, and I remember what Reagan said..."Trust....but verify!"

Sorry my skepticism runs deeper than that, and not just on this auction. A picture of his, or his friends, Empeg’s serial number only proves it exists. It does not mean he’ll send it to you.

thanks for the photo. im sure that your sale is legit and all. we are not always as big of dicks as we may come across in the for sale section. we just hate to see people get burnt on these things. weve all been scammed in some fashion in our lives, and we would hate to see that happen to someone here (again). we are somewhat of a tight-knit community, so we 'get each others back', so to speak.
