WTB mk.2a complete Set for car/home use - 14/09/2005 12:21

Hi, my name is Markus Oranien, a 36-year old german in Germany. I came across this site only recently, and since I was looking for a product with exaclty empegs capabilities for quite a while now, Im eager to buy an Mk.2a so I can use the Alpha3 software on it.
Since good things dont come cheap I dont expect to get away easily, but this empeg is supposed to become a life-long companion!

In case someone is interested in selling an empeg to me, my email/MSN is [email protected]

Regards, Markus Oranien.

Which is a good thing to say to yourself, and not the guy who's setting the price.

Well tfabris, Ive read all topics in this section, so I do have a price in mind, I just dont want it for free.

It seems that many people hold on to more then 1 set and I am trying to give the impression he can part from his beloved second set, as it will be in good hands

I love it! That's so true, for me anyway. Unless something better comes out, I'll be installing my empeg into many more cars. I already have my next one and two dashes in my sights. Yeah, in 10 to 15 years...

I would like to say I have some great offers right now and everyone is very friendly and easy-going (even with my n00b qurestions).
Damn, I cant wait to have my own, I already dreamt about it! Well, mainly about me, my collection and the german autobahn...

Yup. Until you spam-crosspost something covered in the FAQ.

There are some tricks to safely buying an empeg from the BBS, from ebay, or however. The last thing you want is a scam, a broken player (that claims to work), or a stolen player.

Here's a rant of buying tips. Maybe the seller's tips can suggest what makes a good transaction.

Anyone with strong search fu want to find some other links? Maybe the sellers and buyers tips (if exists) could be stickied in For Sale.

Since I moved to Ireland and I had to change my car (right hand drive anyone? LOL) I never got around to find someone able to install the 'peg in my new car, plus I don't have a tuner and I want to listen to the radio :P. So my empeg is currently serving as a home audio server, it's still in perfect conditions (it's a 30Gb) and I have the remote, the car sled and even the Alpine car amp catching dust in the storage room. I sent messages on the BBS in the past but nobody seemed to be interested, so if you want it send me a PM

Thanks to anyone that sent me a PM regarding my empeg. Yes I do own a perfectly functional Empeg (MK2a) and since it has been outside the car for a while (I'm using it right now connected to my stereo as an MP3 jukebox) it's in perfect conditions with minimal wear and tear.
The problem is: I saw on another guy's ebay auction that the unit, plus tuner, is on sale for 150 UK pounds and, to be honest with you, stating on how much I paid for it, I prefer to use it until it breaks down (probably never, LOL) rather than make only a few quid out of it. At the end it's a cool piece of kit for home use as well as a car stereo

Cheers,
EtN

I remember seeing that one! And just like a week after I bought mine too. Man, my eyes nearly popped out of my head!

I'm sure it was a freak one. I paid a more reasonable (er, for the seller) price for mine a couple of months ago, and all the others I've seen for sale go for more.

I'm referring to this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5812817847&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:UK:31

Granted that there's still time left, it seems to sell for far less than its worth, as far as I'm concerned. The units are of course getting older but, frankly speaking, the Empeg was so far ahead of its time it's futuristic even now. It's beautifully engineered, works like a charm and, if installed correctly, sounds great and lasts for long. It withstood a quasi-non-stop trip from northern Italy to Dublin without showing ANY sign of fatigue. And withsood beautifully a 40-celsius Italian summer (granted that I never left it into the car ). With an Ethernet to Wireless bridge you can use it as a wireless audio server, go figure . I'd happily scrap my current Kenwood HU in favour of the Empeg if I had (1) a tuner and (2) a more empeg-friendly car (roads are rough up here)

Ah right. There was one quite a while ago which actually sold for roughly that amount. The one you are linking to still has 3 days, so you can't really gauge the price one bit. We'll see how it ends.

You're right though, the Empeg is so futuristic. The fact that there is nothing like it made by no-one else just makes my mind numb. In fact, I would bet there would never be any device like it - everyone is so hooked on iPod links right now, this will get more refined and will be the standard way to go.

Well, thats according to my crystal ball

If you want my biased opinion, the ipod sucks. Great as a fashion tool, smaller than the Empeg for sure, but not half as good as the Empeg when it comes to either using it as a music server (the BIG hi-contrast screen and the visuals are cute, and the InfoText lets you see the titles from the distance) or as a car player. Ipods are designed for headphones and lack some great stuff such as multichannel parametric equalizer and BIG hard drives

Edit: You can't take your empeg with you on a plane or if you fancy a run in the park, but still, USB based drives such as my Creative Muvo provide plenty of storage and are lighter than the HDD based ipods. The ipod shuffle is another rip-off: costs more than the muvo and it's got no display!. What the hell?

I don't like Apple, but I'd like to hear your beef on the new Ipod Nano!

I gave in and bought one. ONLY because I owned a muvo2 and didn't like it. Buttone were hard to press and there was a problem with alot of the players with the headphone jack.

Aside from Creative and Ipod, nobody else is coming anywhere close in the really small/non-hd mp3 players..

The Nano is a good idea....
...turned bad.

http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/05/09/29/1233254.shtml?tid=176&tid=3

Miniaturization has its limits, and the Nano is no exception to this golden rule. a 1GB Muvo TX from Creative costs less than half the price and is far more rugged and reliable than the hey-my-display-has-gone-haywire Nano.

When it comes to music server (you mean home mp3 player, right?) the Empeg totally rules. iPods are simply not for taking out of your pocket. Only Roku comes close really.

I totally hear ya about the shuffle though! Man, that thing is lame. If you want an mp3 player, its a bad choice. If you want a USB stick, its alright.

Re: WTB mk.2a complete Set for car/home use - 29/09/2005 17:50

Yep, I mean home jukebox (music server cause you can actually attach winamp to it and stream music from the device even if you're located in another room or so).
I've got a Sony VAIO notebook and I noticed Sony also makes (years after Empeg, that is) a similar streaming product. Same goes for the Philips Streamium.

Finally, the ipod shuffle: you can get something better for less, so why bother? I agree with you that the yoke is lame and the "patented shuffle mechanism" is a bunch of malarkey. I mean, my first cd player (Sony) 10 years ago already had a shuffle mode, what's new in that apart from the Apple brand and cool factor? Nothing, it appears.

i have a nano for exercise/gym/etc use.

its a very good product. even with the screen issue which only effects VERY few. plus apple will repair for free.

I'm very loyal to empeg still. for home/auto use.

Just disappointed Rio never made a really nice 4gb+ SMALL mp3 player.

Not true. Did you ever check out the Rio Carbon? It was smaller and thinner than an iPod Mini and came in either a 4 GB or a 6 GB variety.

On the plus side, the girl in the movie is very cute...
..
..
..
..
which is the same reason bringing people to the shops buying ipods . "It's so cute" :P

LOL!

Re: WTB mk.2a complete Set for car/home use - 01/10/2005 19:49

yes i considered the carbon before but i never bought one.

Mainly because of "moving parts" and not being a flash player. I would've bought one anyways but the Nano came out so I opted for
that instead.

If Rio had other smaller mp3 players coming out then I would've held off. I didn't wanna own an Apple product. Just forced to really.
