Thaks to those who PM'd me. The search is over. I've bought a DX100ix and will be putting my empeg on ebay in the next couple of weeks.

What is a DX100ix? A quick google search brought up nothing for me.

He means DH100ix....

Its a Dension DIN unit with removable HDD. Now discontinued.

I had one but found the build quality to be very poor so I stayed with the Empeg.

I'd be really interested to hear how that unit works out for you. I saw them at the dension booth at CES the year they came out with them, and then heard nothing after that. I wonder how many got made and sold?

Sorry, typo there on my behalf. Meant DH100ix.

The car I'm buying has only one DIN slot, so the Kenwood headunit I currently use for amp/tuner has to go. I investigated getting an FM tuner for the empeg and an external amp, but the tuner is just sooo expensive.

Found a brand new DH100ix on ebay. All in is costing me about $590, but the sale of the Kenwood and the empeg will get some of that back. Plus the DH100ix should be simple to install. It got good reviews (sound quality was my main conern but most ppl seem happy with that), and should be nice and fast with USB 2.0.

No cool stuff like webservers etc, but then again 99.9% of the time I just use the empeg for playing music in the car.

The longevity of the front panel buttons etc is a concern, but it is designed to use a Sony "stalk" remote control, so that should help.

I would think that Dension found the Ice>Link more lucrative and hence decided to quit the incar mp3 player business.
