Whohoo! Tuner?

Whohoo! Tuner? - 13/03/2002 11:46

Yeah! Finally got my player in (Thanks, Uncle Sam.). Serial number 4096 - 4Mb. This thing just rocks. (Hey, I'm skipping work to load up my MP3s..)
Anyways, I've been looking and glancing around for these Tuner modules. Normally, I'd say screw it, but, working in radio, and doing ALOT of cross-country driving, I occasionally PREFER to listen to different stations during my drive, so I'm more inclined to get one than most people.
I noticed the high prices these tuner things have - hell, www.carplayer.com said they have a few left, for the SAME PRICE as a 10Gb Empeg! (around $310). I've seen them on eBay for $250. I KNOW these things couldn't have RETAILED that high. Would I be better off getting a cheap-arse walkman/tuner and plug it into the aux, or seriously consider a tuner module (I'd prefer the tuner, since I wouldn't have to worry about batteries in the walkman, or having it lose in the car..)
So, anyone have a CHEAP source for these tuners, or can point me somewhere?
Many gracias!

Thanks!

I'd recommend doing exactly that... buy a cheapy and plug it into the AUX for now. Word has it there's another run of tuners in the works... but it could be as long as 4-5 months before they are ready to ship.

and congrats on the player... I'm not sure where you got the 4mb thing though...

Perfect. Exactly what I wanted to hear. I have a trip coming up in two weeks that I'll do that for - my next trip is this fall, hopefully some will be out by then..

Oh, just a play on my serial number. The 4-96th player made (I'm assuming I'm reading that right - with the 04010 being the 40th day in 2001 the player was made.. (Or am I completely off, and making stuff up?)

Ah! Okay. So it was made in April, 01. Still serial number 4096.
And, of course, within 12 hours, I broke it. >:)

I'l be putting up my $15 empeg FAQ Sniping tool soon. It will monitor the BBS for you (you can set which forums you prefer and varrying fuzzy criteria) and post instructions leading people to the FAQ under your login ID. You can edit brief pre and post messages to add to the FAQ message. It'll come with a selection of pre-written funny one-liners too.

Can you add a "sulk" feature that takes your website down for a day when people don't listen to what the bot says ?

Sorry Mark, couldn't resist it

Actually, I prefer the feature that snipes serial numbers from offending posts and blacklists them inside Hijack.. #47, eh..
