YIKES !!!! I went to buy a car mount today, and wowzers, it's $145 USD.
That's Outrageous. I just can't believe it. Anyone want to sell me one for less ???

Re: Sled - 30/05/2002 12:31

It's that expensive for a reason. It really costs that much to make.

Re: Sled - 30/05/2002 12:41

but by that rationalle,
the empeg itself, really only costs $50,
since they were selling for $199 with a $149 mount included.

I figure thay would cut empeg owners a break....
geez

Yeah, we covered that rationale a while ago when the fire sale was going on.

Re: Sled - 30/05/2002 13:24

Dave I think it is very much a case of buy now or be at the merci of profiteers.
This posting put it into perspective for me - I'll be ordering a sled tonight as I might need it in two or three years for the second car. I also be getting a spare remote - so small and easy to loose, and a second PSU for use at work. For a total cost of almost one 10gig Empeg during the fire sale.
So yes it is relatively expensive when compared with the bargin-basement price I paid for my Empeg in March, but after only 4 days of use I am hooked, and would hate to have to choose which car it had to be fitted in.

I just received mine yesterday. I bought a sled and adaptor and didn't do a conversion on the amount. Oh well. They'll go for more than that on ebay once you can't buy them. I should have bought one during the fire sale.

Re: Sled - 30/05/2002 16:06

Cut you a break? Selling players at a HUGE loss for $199 counts as what exactly?

At the time of the firesale I made a deliberate decision not to clear the mounts at a discount price because I wanted them to remain available for the life of the empeg store - not get snapped up by speculators or become "spares" sitting in a garage for years. I also decided not to reduce them in price in the last few days of the store because I promised as much when I announced the closure.

There will be one or two mounts amongst the prizes at Amersfoort this year, though, for those who feel lucky

The price of the car mount was never reduced during the firesale. The AC adapter is now cheaper than it was then.

You didn't lose anything by waiting

<desperate plea><tone=whining>Well, as one individual who paid full price for his player, perhaps you could thow a spare remote my way?</desperate plea></tone>

Oh well, it was worth a try

Re: Sled - 30/05/2002 16:44

Ah, I had forgotten that they weren't but thanks for reminding me. I figured someday I might need it if I ever get someone to build a home docking station for me. Someone was looking into doing that on the side but it's been a long time with no word. I hope I don't end up having to give it a go.

Re: Sled - 31/05/2002 05:41

As an additional question related to Sled's.

How many Sleds are still owned by "The Company".

As to the point if mine breaks what are the chances in getting it repaired/replaced in the next few years. (Same for the player)

Can a warranty to purchased on the unit?

Is it possible to have a unit serviced/upgraded (light mods and stuff)

Re: Sled - 31/05/2002 10:06

Well, no one even needs to worry about it anymore as they are Sold Out.

Bummer. That'll teach me to wait.

Re: Sled - 02/06/2002 18:11

We have repair stock of everything, including players, sleds, plastic, you name it.

Before anyone asks - no, we won't sell any of it! Clearly we need this stuff to meet warranty obligations.

Re: Sled - 03/06/2002 15:15

will u sell it once all warrentys are up?

Re: Sled - 03/06/2002 15:45

I sure hope NOT !
If they don't, that would mean that my Empeg is serviceble for years to come !

I sure wouldn't like to be in the position where it breaks down in say a year or so, and I can't contact support anymore since it wouldn't matter anyway because they sold all their spare parts.

As Cartman would say : That would suck major ass !

Re: Sled - 03/06/2002 18:06

true, but i mean when it breaks would we have the option to pay for a repair? liek if my VFD broke could i have them fix it out of warrenty for a fee or sell me one so i can replace it myself?

Re: Sled - 04/06/2002 05:00

true, but i mean when it breaks would we have the option to pay for a repair?

I sure hope if my player ever goes kaputt they'd want to take my money and repair it ! Don't know about the "selling spare parts" bit, I guess we'll have to ask them what their policy will be. Starting beginning of next year, all of the warranties will have expired so it may be good/important to know.

David ? Rob ? Hugo ?

Re: Sled - 04/06/2002 07:32

I believe the longest warranties (the last of the carplayer.com players) run through to next April.

I haven't a clue what will happen after that (not my department ), but being realistic, if David decides to leave there's certainly nobody else in Customer Service who is going to be able to repair these things.

So wherever David goes assuming he does, he is gonna have a few thousand of his closest personal friends wanting to stay in close contact with him... LOL
