You are selling 4 tuners?!?
Posted by: robricc

Re: Tuners on ebay - 21/06/2002 20:00

Yes, I have 4 tuners for sale currently. Don't worry, I have the empegs the go with them. However, with the kits available in the future I would rather have the money now. I doubt I would need a tuner in every car I ever put an empeg in anyway... if I ever own multiple vehicles.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 22/06/2002 10:00

well if people are paying $620 for them - see ebay:1359359609
i would be selling mine as well, if i had one.....

Re: Tuners on ebay - 22/06/2002 12:00

I bought one for over $400 and I love it. I would probably sell it if I knew enough about electronics to get one of patricks kits, but since I dont, I think it is worth what I paid for it. I may have thousands of tunes at my fingertips, but there is something about the radio that I still keep switching over to it at least once a day.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 22/06/2002 12:26

but why sell them as one package....figured you would sell them seperatly...
Posted by: robricc

Re: Tuners on ebay - 22/06/2002 13:32

figured you would sell them seperatly...

This is a dutch auction. Tuners are being sold individually in one auction.

Not proud of he says...

Yeah, do you have a problem with that? I don't feel I need to publicly discuss what prompted me to sell them (other than their high price letely). Please don't doubt what I say like I'm some scummy profiteer. You don't know me.

Rob.
I checked out your install pictures, how do you like the steering wheel remote? I've been thinking about trying one.
Posted by: ElectricD7

Re: Tuners on ebay - 22/06/2002 14:48

He is selling them separately. He just has them listed in one auction instead of separate auctions. One person can buy all four, or four people can each buy one.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 22/06/2002 14:51

That kenwood remote was very good. I am not using it anymore because my Saab has steering wheel controls that I am trying to get working. I bought the Kenwood from Crutchfield.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 22/06/2002 15:01

Anyone who's flow accross the country just to go to an empeg meet can sell as many tuners as they want without being accused of profiteering, as far as I'm concerned. More tuners are on the way, and if people want to have a pre-made tuner now and are willing to pay for it, we might as well give it to them...

Rob, I'm not saying anything bad about selling the tuners......just amazed that you have four of them......
and damn, your in rockland county......If I would have known, I would of made an offer and drove over to pick it up, I live right next to Rockland county....

Re: Tuners on ebay - 22/06/2002 21:41

Who said I only had 4? If you can help me get the install of my Saab fixed up good, I will give you a tuner for your service. I just don't trust myself with tearing apart my dash. If it were my old Rodeo, I would be cool with it... just not an expensive Saab.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 05:45

Profiteering isn't intrinsically wrong. Sonicblue just allow people to order as many turners as one wanted which some people took advantage of.

It was just empeg owners loss that there wasn't any left, we just now know someone that sat and bought them all up. You obviously added a disclaimer to buffer any critisim. No need to get defensive.

You have a ebay store and are a professional at making money on Ebay and exploting situations like this. When the truth comes to light, it takes a big guy to stand up an admit to it.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 08:37

Damn! Why the hell did I get involed in computers.....shudda became a car radio installer specializing in Saab installs!
If you need a good installer, there is one in Paramus that did a nice job with my car, good price too.....

I currently own as many empegs as tuners.

No need to get defensive.
Yes there is. Here's why...

You have a ebay store and are a professional at making money on Ebay and exploting situations like this.
If you notice, the tuners are the only thing in the store. I got the store when it was free. I just never canceled the service. You have no clue what you are talking about and should mind your business.

When the truth comes to light, it takes a big guy to stand up an admit to it.
You're an asshole. When tuners sold out on the empeg international store, I bought some from the US store to sell to members of this board FOR COST. By the time they got here, everyone had arranged to get a tuner, so I was stuck with about 4 more tuners than I have now. PaulH (the maintainer of this BBS) needed a tuner, so I helped him out. I sent him a tuner for cost, postage-free to whatever country he lived in. The shipping cost more than the tuner. I don't think that sounds like something a scum bag would do.

Those tuners from months ago were ebay'd and got $325 a piece. Those were excess tuners that ended up on ebay for profit. Only beacuse the original parties that were interested backed out.

The tuners currently on ebay each go with an empeg I own and will never sell. I am selling the tuners because I need the money and tuner kits will be available in the future. As for $400 for a tuner, the market will bear that price. To some people, me included, the tuner is worth that much.

The other thing is, I supported empeg by buying an Mk2 (not Mk2a) at full price back in the day. I have nothing to be ashamed of. You should be ashamed that you have nothing better to do than analyse people you've never met. Get a life.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 10:36

The name calling is a bit much. What happened to someone expressing their opinion without being told to censor themselves. I don't dislike you and you purchased the tuners fair and square and you can dispose of them how you like.

You explained the truth, it comes to light. That term bothers you a lot. Don't sweat it dude. It's not that important.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 12:43

The international store were asked (by me) not to accept bulk orders during the two "closing down" periods (car player sell off at xmas and the final shutdown recently). In fact nobody attempted to order in bulk.

I'm fairly sure this wasn't a significant issue for the US store either - when the tuner was reduced (who's idea was that??) there were only a few left. The player itself took ages to sell out (considering how cheap they were!).

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 13:46

Only because awareness was so low. The week I instaaled mine, I showed it off to 5 friends. All 5 wanted one, went to the store, Too late. I earnestly believe that if the Empeg was marked differently, It would have sold many many more units. Fact is, most people I know go to a car stereo place to shop for a player. Very few go to the net; and if they do, it's to Sony or BestBuy or some such McDonalds-style electronics store. Hrmm... I'm rambling.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 14:46

When I installed mine, nobody wanted it because of the price. Well, they acted like they didn't want it. However, once the price dropped to $699, I was able to convince one of my friends. Then, when it dropped to $199, two more jumped on board. Maybe my friends are just cheap, but I didn't share the same experience as you.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 15:05

Hehe, my friends are notoriously cheap too. They are, however, nerds. The geek factor was high enough to get over the price.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 19:44

ya i told 2 friends and they got one right away, now everyone in town wants one but cant have it, i kidna wish i didt tell them, but then at the same time i do, i want to be the only one in town with an empeg :-P
Posted by: lectric

Re: Tuners on ebay - 23/06/2002 20:23

I know exactly what you mean. And the ones that wouldn't want one just don't quite "get it"
Posted by: bodybag

Re: Tuners on ebay - 24/06/2002 14:33

I have 2 types of friends... "Geek factor" friends who have bought Empegs since I got mine no matter what the the cost was (they could easily recognise the value of such a thing), and "more $$$ than I know what to do with" friends who also have purchased Empegs since I got mine. Either way, I still wish I was the only guy in town with one (or two, or three...) so I could make all my buddies jealous of my incredible Empeg.

Re: Tuners on ebay - 25/06/2002 17:08

I'm amazed there hasn't been more interest in your listing to date, 22 hours and counting....

Possibly people don't realise how a Dutch auction works and are put off by qty. 4?

Or, there are snipers sat there waiting in the wings (not me)?
Posted by: robricc

Re: Tuners on ebay - 26/06/2002 04:15

It may be snipers, we'll see in 11 hours. If all of the tuners don't sell, the left over quantity will be sold in seperate auctions.

It could also be that word of Patrick's kit is starting to spread a bit. Good luck with the auction!!!
