I'm getting the distinct feeling that guy doesn't like Apple. I thought they were supposed to be perfect, but then again, I had Apple thrust upon me at school. If you wanted to use a real computer ie. an Archimedes or even a PC, you had to climb four flights of stairs to a draughty room on the top floor.

I find it amazing that my school made sure that almost nobody was able to use a PC upon finishing their studies. Not everyone is going to be a journalist or graphic designer. I recently visited my old school (my father is still a teacher there) and spoke to the head of IT, only to find that they've gotten rid of all the Acorns and bought even more bloody Apples. Difficult to train someone to work in a business environment (which is predominantly PC orientated) when they can't even eject a floppy disk without searching through the menus in Windows 98, I should know I've seen it. I to point out to the kid using the PC that they had to use the eject button on the front of the PC instead. I always had the feeling they backed the wrong horse...

They also had a cupboard full of Betamax machines!

Wow, I don't hear people calling an Archimedes a real computer very often!

I actually thought OS X was pretty cool, being on top of BSD and all, but then again, I didn't play with it all that much.

I wont comment on their physical design or upgrade potential

"Apple has yet to find a way to equal the superiority and speed of the Pentium"

I wanted a laptop to play DVDs and to use for website hacking (i.e. perl and apache). The iBook running Os X does the job rather well... =)

After re-reading my previous post I may have sounded a little OTT. But that's what happens when you've had too much to drink. I think what I was trying to say was that my school couldn't strike an equilibrium between systems and that's what drove me against Apple (including the fact I found it impossible to get my school work done on them, damn you 'At Ease'!).

So I was thinking of an improvement to the BBS and that's an alcohol meter. Before you submit a post you to supply a breath specimen which is then measured and displayed with your post. That way people can see how serious your post is by looking at how pissed you where when you wrote it.

Be very careful about what you say! On the riocar.org photo gallery for the empeg office tour you can see quite a few Acorn machines on peoples desks....

Heh, I've still got and A5000 and Risc-PC round here... The Risc-PC is my e-mail machine... (It runs 24/7, and has done for around 4 years... =)

The A5000 is sadly the 25Mhz model, which makes the memory upgrades rather expensive... (The only reason I don't use it much anymore... =(
