How's the weather over there? - 04/01/2003 01:19

Was just reading a news article on MSNBC about bad weather in Europe. Anyone over there affected?

I guess that depends what you mean by bad weather... I just called home and it was 25 degC below zero....while I got 28 degC above zero here...

The weater in Belgium is pretty good now. Cold, but sunny. Unlike the last weeks where we had constant rain. Rivers burst and whole areas were flooded. Fortunately not the exact area where I live, but at about 2 miles from where I live people had to leave their houses. I guess I am pretty lucky.

Typical January here in Manchester, frost on the car, chill in the air, but I'm still wearing a T shirt.

It's kind of frosty in the south of England and some places have flooding. It's just cold where I am

Anyone over there affected?

The Anchor pub got it in the neck as usual, but on Riverside they deployed the new flood defence walls, and all the houses survived this time. Downstream of Cambridge, and elsewhere in Britain, some folk weren't so lucky.

Southern Sweden today: cold (about -20'C [-4'F]) here and clear, with very little wind.

Predictions for tomorrow: decent snowfall, somewhat nice temperatures at about -10'C (14'F) but more wind. Looks real grim for the northern 2/3rds though with down to -35'C (-31'F) over large areas.

Wow.... Currently 45° here, and my G/F thinks it's cold. High of 65° tomorrow.

Hey, what a coincidence. Couple days ago it was 45 degrees where I am too, and I thought it was pretty darned cold. Of course, that was 45 degrees below zero.

I doubt you're alone in considering that as cold. Where would that be?

Looks like we got about 4" so far since last night, and it's still coming down pretty hard at less than 30' angle to the the ground. Temperature's a balmy -7'C (~19'F) though.

Alaska.

Duh! Should have remembered that... And not all that many (inhabited) places get that cold in the first place.

Your .signature is highly fitting in this case...

Well, it was a peedie bit snowy across the central belt of Scotland over the weekend, enough that many drivers decided to go at 40mph on the motorways, but it was still very grippy except on very minor roads - which, after some hunting, I found and played on

Up the far north, folks were snowed in their homes in some parts of Orkney, which is pretty rare as it doesn't usually get cold or snowy up there due to the North Atlantic Drift hitting the west coast of Orkney.

Wet Christmas and Hogmanay though. Typical. I'll have to move somewhere to warm up.

Yayy! Looks like I'm getting to move to Perth, West Australia for a year or two. Much less snow there. Hmm - have to find out more info.
