Scream therapy...
I am fortunate I am not a DBA. I was just helping our DBAs fix some damage inflicted upon their databases. (No, I am not guilty of these atrocities...) So, out of complete disgust for the amount of pain and suffering it took to get things sane again...
1) Do not use the unix "compress" utility against live database files while Oracle is running.
1a) Do not hide these compressed files on other file systems where the DBA can't find them.
