Ripping speeds getting worse... - 12/06/2003 09:39

Hello all,

I've ripped most of my collection on a Windows box with a Plextor Plexwriter 40/12/40A. At first, I was getting rip speeds in the 35-40x range. Now its down to 16-18 at best. Has anyone else experienced this?

I suspected drivers and installed newer ASPI drivers with no effect. I upgraded the drive firmware with no effect.

Do these things just wear out? Is there any way to test that?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

You changed your CD ripping software by any chance?
Also are your CDs just more scratched now?

...or CD drive optics dirty?

I upgraded the ripping software (I use Audiograbber to rip&encode in one shot), but then downgraded and it didn't get better.

The problem isn't with just some CDs it's with all of them, even new ones.

Probably. Do CDROM cleaning products actually work? Can anyone recommend a decent one?

Looks like you switched from BURST mode to something else - like Dynamic Sync...
