Rick Wakeman - 24/07/2003 10:17

I have just been idly scanning Paul Grzelak's cd.txt for ideas and came across in Rick Wakeman, which triggered the question.....

Has Rick ever played live in the US. I mean recently.
I saw him a few years back in england when he was doing a tour of VERY small theatres. It was at http://www.gladstone.uk.com/ which seats a giant 470 people!!
I would love to see him again in that kind of venue, minus the travelling 3500 miles

You can always try here, although there's nothing listed at the moment.

Normally when someones name features in the subject it usually means they're dead. I have to say I breathed a sigh of relief after reading the first post!

Of course, that site might not know about his concerts. He may be too small now for them to know about him. Several acts I'm going to see soon don't have concerts listed on Pollstar, but it's still helpful for searching for your favorite band's next upcoming gig.

I saw him on the Yes 'Union' tour, but I guess that doesn't count as recently.

Last thing I heard, he was running a taxi company - I forget who told me that.

No, Mrs. B tells me that he's been appearing as a guest on game shows.

Yes are currently touring Europe, so you may get your wish.

Saw them play Liverpool a few weeks back.

Then I suppose you just need to search for the right name

I haven't looked at who's in the current lineup of Yes lately.

Last I looked (which I admit was several years ago), Rick wasn't in Yes, hasn't been for decades, but he got back with them once, them along with Bruford and Howe, for the "Union" tour.

(See the OLD lineup of Yes, Anderson-Bruford-Wakeman-Howe, did a reunion tour where they shared the stage with the NEW lineup of Anderson-Squire-Kaye-White-Rabin, hence the name "Union". In set theory, Anderson was the "Intersection"...)

Yep, He joined up again in 2002 I think.
Back to the classic (and my personal favorite) lineup.

It was pretty cool seeing him in such a small theatre though. It was on his "Wots on TV" tour, so it was part music part "Rick tales" and great fun and so much better than stadium rock.

Of course, my problem that I am now 3500 miles away from were he plays such tiny places

Wow, interesting. It's now Anderson-Howe-Squire-Wakeman-White.

Close to the "classic" lineup, except without Bill Bruford on drums.

I'm glad to see Alan White still in the lineup (great guy, met him once), but now I'm wondering what Trevor Rabin is doing lately.

/me goes and checks...

Ah. Soundtracks. Good for him!

Re: Rick Wakeman - 27/07/2003 03:08

Topically, he just had a half hour interview with Jonathan Ross on the radio yesterday, it didn't give much news, mainly reminiscensies - Mrs. B tells me that he regularly appears on a game show called countdown, as an expert, because he's good with words.
