How to weed out applicants - 09/09/2003 10:01

Okay, I'm sure this isn't difficult for most of us, but I imagine it would be for the majority of idiot job applicants. From an actual newspaper (my local paper, in fact) job listing:
PROGRAMMER NEEDED 7777772E 636F6465646A6F622E 636F6D
Personally, I think I'd have not had the introductory unencoded part, in order to find the really curious/geeky ones, but still.

If they wanted a real geek, they should post a job advert on 676F706865723A.

(And besides, telling the OK people from the muppets is the easy bit. It's telling the good people from the OK that's hard.)

The harder part comes next, when they ask you to apply in the form of a Tomcat-deployable WAR file! The web application should creatively display your credentials, along with source to the .java files you've written for your application.

I've done some playing around with Tomcat and I've got to tell you it's not the easiest thing to do. I guess that's why they have zero applicants so far.
