What song does this attachement represent? Its a radio competition. I'll share some of my winnings if anyone gets it right and if I can get through!

Its NOT any of the following

Footsteps Following Me
High Heel Sneakers
Rubber Ball
Passing Strangers
Teardrops (Footsteps on the Dance Floor)
Pinball Wizard
Right By Your Side
Sledgehammer
Under The Boardwalk
Thriller
Uptown Girl
Walk Away
Walking back to Happiness
Walking Away
When You Walk In The Room

You'll never Walk Alone

I would have said Men At Work - Dr. Heckyl & Mr. Jive, but the acoustics are not right... It has that same footstep sequence at the start of the song, but yours has a bit more of a closed room echo to it, while MaW has more atmospheric and leads to a clock striking in the distance...

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 05:48

"Walk On By" isn't on that list...

I'm assuming that it isn't an actual extract of a song, but an audio clue to a song title?

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 07:08

I thought it might be an extended version of Bad by Wacko Jacko

Yes, sorry I should have said its not a clip from the song, but a clue as to its title. Sorry.

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 07:57

Is it wide open on genre? or is it likely to be a current song?
Oldies...
Walk the floors
Walking the floors over you
Walking Shoes
These Boots Were Made For Walking
Echo of your footsteps

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 08:06

Could be any genrre from 50s - now. Its most likely a pop song from those years.

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 08:19

that's pretty tough.... but maybe it's Loretta in her high heal shoes and low neck sweater...

"Get Back"

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 08:49

Walking Song - Leah Kunkel
Walking in Your Footsteps - The Police

Thes second one would be my actual guess, as there are two sets of footsteps in the clip.

I'm going to phone tomorrow morning - I'll let you all know. Cheers

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 09:05

Unfortunately, that's a rather vague clue. There are thousands of "walking" songs out there.

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 09:30

One possibility: "Can't walk away " by Echo?

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 09:34

Aerosmith - Walk this Way
U2 - Walk On
Van Halen - Love Walks In

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 09:40

Thats another good one... 2 sets of footsteps so could that be an echo. Or is it the Police one? Oh well, its lucky I'm off work for 2 weeks!

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 09:41

I searched my music directory for the word walk. 37 of my songs have the word walk in the title. I'd say you're just gonna have to make a guess and hope its right.

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 09:42

There IS an echo though... or is that my imagination? How popular is 'Can't Walk Away'? Is it really obscure?

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 09:44

Pearl Jam - Footsteps maybe?

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 09:55

the footsteps sound like they are in a parking garage, so maybe

In The Garage - Weezer ??

Re: What song is this? - 23/09/2003 10:48

Its a radio competition. (...) Its NOT any of the following (...)
I haven't listened to Mark and Brian in a while, does this mean they're still doing "You Can't Win"?

Edit: Noticed you're in Scotland, so this can't be a You Can't Win question. Sorry for the obscure reference.

I was googling away like mad just in case I was being thick!

Site is www.clyde2.com

Heh, sorry about that. Mark and Brian are a pair of Los Angeles disk jockeys with a widely-syndicated morning show. A few years ago, I used to listen to them before I got sick of them.

Each morning they would do an installment of a long-running contest where the clues were so obscure that even googling for the answers would produce nothing. The only way to get the answers was to a) know the complete list of every other incorrect guess that had been made on-the-air so far, as well as b) lots of library research and consulting experts in whatever field the question was related to.

By listing all of the prior guesses and saying it was for a radio contest, it sounded a lot like that.

Kinda like this?

Ahh, mainstream radio where everything is derivative..the music, the djs and even the contests....

In reply to:

Did you ever find out what the answer was?
It's the not knowing that's the worst...

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 08:49

I couldn't get through, but I'll keep trying. One woman yesterday said it was "Bat out of Hell". What a waste of a guess! At least it puts the prize money up.

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 10:51

Maybe. Now I'm thinking 'WalkThis Way' by Aerosmith.

Is it 2 sets of footsteps or is it an echo?

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 11:52

Two Steps Behind - Def Leppard

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 12:05

James Taylor - Walking Man

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 12:57

I think the two sets of footsteps are significant - so I don't think its simply a 'walking' song. Maybe its nothing to do with walking!

Prize money is up at £820 and it goes up £10 a day (except weekends), so this has been going for a long time!

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 13:02

Funny thing is, whatever song it turns out to be... They probably got the footstep sounds from a standard-library sound-effects disc, and as such, you are likely to find the exact same footstep sounds in a bunch of different places.
Posted by: CrackersMcCheese

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 13:09

I'm not so sure, all the previous ones have been pretty clever, with many clues within the sound effect.

It'll end up being nothing to do with steps, walking, shoes etc - it'll be something totally obscure!
Posted by: tfabris

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 13:13

I should clarify my statement... Whatever song it turns out to be, the original musicians who recorded the song just got the footsteps off of a sound-effects disc. Nobody ever does foley if they don't have to.
Posted by: CrackersMcCheese

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 13:16

The sound effect isn't part of the song though... its just a clue as to its title.

Stairway to Heaven

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 13:22

Oh, I thought the sound effect was the opening of the song and you were supposed to dig through your record colletion looking for a match.

I totally misunderstood the point of the contest, sorry.

Re: What song is this? - 25/09/2003 13:26

Sorry I should have made that more clear. It won't let me edit my first post now.

Never mind, when I win tomorrow morning, it won't matter anymore!

Re: What song is this? - 21/11/2003 07:04

Well it was won today... £1200!

The song? 'You Are Not Alone' - Michael Jackson

Topical at least!

And no, it wasn't me that won!
