Help, pr0n has taken over my computer! - 28/09/2003 11:41

I just purchased the Fischerspooner #1 CD that comes with the bonus DVD. On the DVD, there are some cool remixes that you can't get on CD. On the DVD itself are some WMA's of the songs, but you can only play off of the DVD itself and only with Windows Media Player... (what a PAIN considering I already paid for this DVD and can't get the files onto my empeg.)

So I fired up Google to see if there are any hacks to "fix" these WMA's and to see if there is a key for Total Recorder so I can test that program out (maybe it'll let me just play the DVD and record the audio.)

Well, I found out that most of these sites are simply porn sites. My AV program kicked in once and even warned me that it stopped a virus! So now, after running Ad-aware like 10 times and doing a complete virus scan and reboot, it looks like DNS is screwy... Opening any page (google, empeg.comms, cnn.com) will give me a porn site 1/2 the time. I've cleared my temp files and browsing history, but it's still happening... And everytime a new porn site pops up, I have to go and re-run Ad-aware to clear whatever cookies I was given... damn.

ANY IDEAS?

Try running BHODemon

You might also want to check your \winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and lmhosts file. If they have been corrupted with incorrect IP addresses for the various sites, that might be causing some of your trouble as well.

Well, the loopbacks definately look okay, blocking various things. However I do not know who that IP address is...

You might want to try running SpyBot.

Whoa! Thanks man, that program rules. I've been dealing with this horrible piece of S toolbar that attached itself to my IE for a few weeks now. No luck in removing it -- BHODemon found it and when I disabled it, the thing disappeared.

Ha, I even sent Lavasoft a lengthy email about the problem, with pics, in hopes of having AdAware find the thing in the next update.

Opening any page (google, empeg.comms, cnn.com) will give me a porn site 1/2 the time.

And thats bad?

When the wife is in the room - Yes.
When I'm working on a web page for someone and have to "preview" the page online while someone is looking over my shoulder - Yes.

So it's still broken?

That BHODemon didn't find anything, Ad-aware didn't find anything and my anti-virus didn't find anything...

But now it's okay! Maybe it took a number of reboots or something? I had to manually clear a few cookies too... not sure if that mattered.

I take that back... 20 seconds after I posted this, I got redirected to a "cloud10.com/redirect/" page by clicking on a thread in the General Section...

sigh..

Have you checked your internet option settings in IE to see if anything looks out of place?

Go into Internet Options, then Settings (next to Delete Files), and View Objects. Delete anything there and close your browser. This will delete anything IE has installed as a plugin, including possibly something that is causing this.

Hit Macromedia.com to then reinstall Flash. Apple.Com/Quicktime should take care of the needed Quicktime plugin.
