17" Powerbook?

17" Powerbook? - 21/10/2003 09:11

My primal urge to buy new things is burning ... Anyone have a 17" PowerBook? What's the call on this guy -- too big? I normally work in 1600x1200, so I'm sort of psyched about the resolution on the 17, but I'm curious if it's just too cumbersome to really use as a laptop. I have a Pismo now, which only does 1024x768, which is just too painful to program on.

I borrowed one from a coworker before deciding I wanted the 15". Not necessarily cumbersome but I didn't like the vast extra spaces beside the keyboard. Give me a bigger keyboard if you have the space... also, it seemed like it would be more trouble to use on a plane (not that I fly much).

On the other hand, it would be nice to have the resolution back.

A friend of mine has one. It's thin but really, really big. He commutes to and from work with it on a bicycle, but I don't know how. Also, the keyboard seems to be the same one as the 12in Powerbook, which leaves it looking rather cast adrift in a titanium ocean. Lovely screen though.

OK, I'll admit it, I didn't have my mass spectrometer with me. It could've been aluminium.

I got the 12" and wow

But it is my first Mac so if you had macs before you might not be as impressed

The 17" looks huge but very thin the 12" is probably too small if you like big screens so the 15" might be the answer but they all have a clever trick up there sleeve since they can use an external display but not mirrored but as a dual head which is very good for me as the laptop goes to my left. That runs Itunes or something background and the moniter in front of me with safari etc running on it using the bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

The 12" is meant to be the hottest of them and mine is the 867Mhz and i got no real problems

No titanium 17"ers, only aluminum. I got a new 17" a couple weeks ago to replace my 15" titanium, it's awesome. I thought the size might be a problem but you'll get over it quickly (I had to buy a bigger backpack to hold it though) and the screen more than makes up for the extra weight. The 15" feels like a little toy now.
