Good Photoshop Books?

Good Photoshop Books? - 29/01/2004 17:15

I just got back from the bookstore and was amazed at the selection. Too many! Does anyone have any experience? Recommendations? I'm new to Photoshop, but good w. computers. Should I look at one with more color in it? Or is black and white with a few color plates ok? Is having a CD w. samples worthwhile?

I'm using Photoshop 7.

I was lost until I was told about http://www.photoshopuser.com/. The site has some free information, but I joined, ( I think it is $99 a year) and worth every penny. They send out several publications a year to members, there is online help, tutorials, etc. I finally have a basic understanding of Photoshop and the ability to improve.

Another site is http://www.planetphotoshop.com/ but I do not know much about it

To answer your question, I have several books on Photoshop, but nothing that compares to the web site.

TechTV did a segment on photoshop with Bert Monroy last week, looked like there was some really good stuff in his photoshop books.

As a graphic designer who relies heavily on Photoshop, I've always found the Photoshop WOW! books to be great resources.

Here are a couple other books you may want to look into, as well:
Photoshop Restoration & Retouching, Second Edition
Photoshop Channel Chops
Photoshop Studio with Bert Monroy - Props to Tony for mentioning Bert. His work is astounding, although he uses Photoshop and Illustrator in conjuction, in many cases. Still much to be learned.
Photoshop 7 Artistry: Mastering the Digital Image
Photoshop 7 Killer Tips

I have more if you like, but those should keep you satisfied for a while.

Thank you! I just ordered the Wow book. It seemed the best for my level (non) of Photoshop knowledge.
