Networking a Notebook to a PC - 05/03/2004 18:16

I just got back from a longgggg trip (which will be the subject of another post), and I have a lot of photos saved onto my gf's notebook computer. Is there an easy way to network them together to get the photos off? I tried a serial port connection, but haven't gotten that working yet...She has no ethernet on hers and we both have Windows XP Pro.

Might take a while with the notebook connected to a phone line, but Foldershare would create a pseudo-network over the internet.

Probably a last resort though if there's as many pictures as you make it sound like.

In Win98 I know there was a way to share over a parallel port with the appropriate cable. Not sure if it carried over to the later versions, though. I did it a few times with friends' computers, and the transfer rate was decent enough. Of course, that was in ~1997 standards.

Is it the expense that means you don't want to buy a network card for her laptop ? It would only cost like $15.

Other alternatives are one of those USB-USB networking kits.

You could also get an adapter for the 2.5" drive in her laptop and connect it to your desktop.
