Anyone got a lathe?

I need to make a microphone mount for an elaborate microphone suspension system. I've quickly sketched what I want below:

Basically the mic is mounted to bottom using a standard 5/8" thread which could be glued in later. The boss needs three holes drilled at 120 degree intervals and tapped to accept a small bolt which holds a length of fishing line in place. We're not talking critical tolerances here. As long as it bears some resemblance to what's drawn here I'll be happy.

I'll happily pay for material costs and a reasonable amount for labour, or beer if you're going to Amersfoort.

Shouldn't be a problem - I'll ask my dad what he charges

Send me a PM if you want to go for it.

What material?

Edit: Oh yeah.... and dimensions too!

Yep. What do you want it made of? What are the dimensions?

...and double check those measurements. Patrick made me some lovely aluminium paper weights on his lathe.

They obviously weren't supposed to be paper weights, but I got the measurements a couple of millimeters out. Doh !

The type of material doesn't matter, the only requirement is that its lightweight and the threads don't strip when I tighten the bolts. As for the size the overall length is approx 2 inches, so I suppose you're looking at maybe an inch in width at widest point.

OK, I could make it in aircraft-grade aluminum, about 50mm long, the top spigot being perhaps 20mm diameter x 20mm long, the cone widest point being about 45mm. The hole in the end tapped 5/8 UNC (same as 5/8 whitworth, for all intents), the three mounting holes M4. That do you?

seen bigger thn that

Was in refit in singapore and we had trouble with the top landing face on a liner so they stuck it in a lathe in the machine shop

Liner was about 6 tons over 3meters tall and over 1meter in external diameter

Yeah, I figured in your line of work you would have seen some big ones. The picture is deceiving, this lathe has a two and a half foot swing and an eighteen foot long bed. We haven't used it for years. It just sits in the machine shop gettin' dirty.

That sounds great patrick, how shall we progress this?
