Absurd tube socks question

Absurd tube socks question - 21/05/2004 17:44

Okay, this is a weird one, but my local athletic supply store, from which I've bought my white tube socks for the last twenty years, is no longer carrying them. Aargh. They're the best socks ever (for me) and I'd really not like to have to find a new manufacturer that makes socks like I like them. I'm having trouble finding them (obviously, or I wouldn't be posting here) and I was hoping that someone might have an idea. I know it's silly and you probably don't, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

They are plain white tube socks manufactured by "TAG" or something like that (the printed labels have all worn off) with a red toe seam that, and this is the important part, lies on top of the toe instead of at the end. I had been getting them at the old athletic supply store in town that's been in business for fifty years named Johnson-Lambe, so I imagine that they'd be more common at small shops than big retail chains.

Anyway, I can't imagine that anyone would go looking for me, but if you happen to be in an athletic store, take a look, if you would.

Thanks.

You might want to check out Hanes. The last time I was sock shopping, I picked some of these up at Target, and they're an awful lot like you describe, down to the red seam across the top of the toes. They're pretty comfy, too.

That's what I wear. They work great for me.

While not your white tubesock design, I can highly recommend SmartWool socks if you want to try something a bit different. I've had excellent life out of them and they come in a wide range of weights. I wear them year-round. I find them to feel drier than cotton. They tend towards expensive, but you can find them at some of the lower cost camping gear outlets - like Campmor or Sierra Trading Post.

Gotta have happy feet.

While I appreciate the suggestion, I've yet to find a heeled sock (which seems to be all they make) where the heel doesn't end up halfway up my calf. And, yes, I'm buying their smallest sizes, despite my fairly average size 10.5 feet.

I also wear a 10.5 and the heels seem to wind up in the right spot. It's true, all they make are heeled socks.

I think that the problem may be that I have fairly narrow feet and in order to get the socks form-fitting, I have to pull them tighter to make them narrower, which makes the heel come up way too high. I've never had a pair of heeled socks that were comfortable. I need to get booted dress shoes so that I can wear tube socks with them.

You might gives these folks an email. They show Johnson-Lambe as their only distributor in NC.

Excellent! The logo's different than what's on the socks, but it's bound to be the same company. I've emailed them. Hopefully they haven't gone out of business.
