Webhosting Woes -- Geekhosting blows! - 05/10/2004 10:25

Hey all,

I've been using Geekhosting ( www.geekhosting.com ) for about a year now and things have been sliding downhill for the last few months. This is the second webhost that has burned me in the last year. The first was www.onemain.ca (check out their current website!).

While Geekhosting seems to be in full operation they don't respond to trouble tickets, emails or phone calls.

I have personally left a negative review at http://www.hostratings.com/host_review.php?host=2206 that has gone missing. The same has happened to many others ( http://matthewlloyd.net/reviews/hosting.php ).

One of my domains is set to expire on October 23rd and I don't think I'll have any trouble getting them from the domain registrar (I've already been talking with them).

I'm looking for suggestions on well priced hosting options with reputable web hosts. My current setup offers me 20gig of bandwidth, 500 megs space. Unlimited emails/ftps/add-on domains. I haven't had a problem running Gallery or Movable Type with them. I'm also looking for some help in transferring the content. I currently have about 110 megs of data at geekhosting. I can do a backup of the site and get it via ftp, however my fastest connection is satellite down but only 33.6 dial-up to send it back to the server.

So far I am interested in:

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've used Webstrike Solutions for about two years now and am pleased with their reliability and service. And they're so confident that you will be just as content, they offer the first 12 months for free.

www.icdsoft.com has excellent service, excellent prices (for modest storage and monthly bandwidth requirements) and a very nice control panel. I don't know if they will offer the bandwidth requirements you need at a price that's as economical as their default config.

www.webmasters.com a few sites I've frequented use this host. Plans seem "good" though I have no experience as a customer.

Finally, some satisfaction!

I noticed today that their website was updated with specials and everything. Still no real contact info though. I then noticed their live chat link. Click it, enter name and address and click chat. Nothing. Hmmm... maybe it doesn't work with FireFox. Try IE. Get further, start chatting but they stop chatting after 2 responses. So I think to myself, "It figures!" Try again, start chatting, they pull up my file, change my contact information and inform me of my next billing date, they fix two typos I told them about on ther site and inform me that they had growing pains in the past. They continue to inform me that support will now respond within 24 hours. Great!

Now I hope everything works out for me when it comes time to renew in a few weeks!

Thanks for the webhost suggestions guys!

I hear stories like this, and I'm really glad my webhosting provider is a) someone I've met personally and trust, and b) someone who's on ICQ most of the time and is willing to help me out at the drop of a hat. Donato, you da man.
