Running old games?

For some reason I had a hankering for a hunk of Day of the Tentacle and downloaded the demo from LucasArts' website. It didn't go well I'm curious if anyone knows of a good way to run old DOS games without rebooting into something like FreeDOS (basically DOS-in-a-window)?

Some googling turned up:

I'm going to try this out and see how it goes.

Cool -- Thanks ... The Sam & Max Hit the Road Demo actually works properly in XP without me doing anything. The only funkiness was a direct harddrive access attempt in the installer (which you could say "ignore" to) and the sound detection was a little funky. But once I set the music to General MIDI port 330 and the Sound Blaster to DMA 1, it worked perfectly. Kind of cool to see the old games again

I can personally recommend DosBox, it really kicks some serious ass.

It's tricky to configure right, but once you're past that learning curve, it's just amazingly cool.

Yeah wow -- this thing is pretty damn cool! The D-Fend Windows frontend is particularly handy as well.

If you want to play LucasArts SCUMM based games then use ScummVM.

How's ScummVM do with Roland MT-32 music emulation (if at all)?

No clue. It does have MIDI support though. I think it defaults to just Adlib emulation though.

Seconded for DOSBox(.app). Runs great on OS X.
