16-bit program no longer sees my printer - 17/12/2004 00:45

Being just a wee bit reluctant to upgrade to the newest and greatest software, I am still using a 16-bit word processor that first hit the market in 1988: Ami Pro.

It ran really well under Windows 3.0, 3.1, '95, and '98.

It is less happy about Windows 2000, where it will crash unless I configure the shortcut to always run it in it's own seprate memory space.

It is really unhappy about WIndows XP, where it won't recognize the scroll wheel on my mouse any longer.

But the killer problem is that ever since I put the Service Pack 2 into my XP installation, Ami Pro no longer sees my printer. All other applications print just fine, only Ami Pro does not.

I'm guessing that SP2 doesn't like 16 bit programs for some reason, although this might be a complete red herring.

Does anybody have any ideas, like a registry setting "enable 16 bit printing" or something silly like that?

We use DOSPRN here for our legacy order entry application. Great little program.
