My new car, 2007 Mustang GT

My new car, 2007 Mustang GT - 17/09/2006 08:04

After several years of wanting one, I finally have a Mustang parked in my garage. My dealer called on wednesday to let me know it came in, and I took an extended lunch to go sign for it. Thus far I have put 500 miles on it, all while making sure to drive at variable RPMs to get the engine broken in.

I'm really glad the dealer hassle is over with now. I had tried to order at two different places before finally being able to work with the third dealership. I wanted to custom order the car to have every option on the car my choice (well, except the stereo, sadly camelot wasn't an option), and the first dealer refused, instead trying to pressure me in to one off their lot. Second dealer claimed to order the car, but after 3 weeks it wasn't in the Ford system, and they were not willing to look into it until I came in to have it cancelled.

Now to figure out how best to mount the empeg in the dash. For now, I'm using the aux in jack tucked in the center console to let my Karma play the music.

My gallery with more pictures and a video of the dash changing colors is located here.

Very nice ride. Respects to the GT (instead of the V6 base model). Is that a stick shift in that picture? If so, excelent! Color changing dash lights are amazing. At the end, were you custom making the colors by selecting the RBG values?! And they say American cars are lame; nonsense.

Yep, went with a stick shift. It's my first car with a manual transmission, but with my experience on a motorcycle, I worked it out quickly. When I went to move my Saturn the other day, I was trying to find the clutch pedal on the floor, until I remembered it was an automatic.

As for the dash, yes, it has both preset colors and then 1-5 values for R, G and B for quite a few combinations.

I actually like the V6 Mustangs too. For a while, only the GTs looked cool (since around 1992 or so when they changed body styles) but now even a V6 has that cool look to it. Just like in the 60s where all Mustangs looked hot.

You guys should see all the tricked out ones with Ford Manufacturer plates driving around. Lots of special editions coming out - just like the good ol' days!

I saw an ad for the Shelby GT500 version on TV the other day. 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 rated at 500 horsepower and 480 lb.ft. of torque with a 6-speed manual. Still has the live rear axle, though.

And still gets like 20mpg too!

Boss 302 is coming
California Edition is already out..
Shelby Hertz Edition is coming (not a Cobra, but it's a spiced up GT).

302 or ~5.0L engine, 390hp, stripped interior, the suspenion from the GT500, orange? YES and Boss stripes too!

Is the Boss Mustang Back? Motor Trend Says Yes

Motor Trend magazine’s upcoming September issue is reporting that the Boss Mustang is a 100% go for the year 2008, before the Ford Motor Company plans to redesign the Ford Mustang line in 2009. Excited yet? Will if not you should be when you hear the rumored specs surrounding the car! Motor Trend is claiming the Boss Mustang will make use of a 5.0 liter displacement engine that will produce 390 naturally aspirated horsepower. That’s right folks, no supercharger on this bad boy. Many Mustang enthusiasts are hopeful that the 5.0 liter used will be the famous pushrod engine used up till 1995 in Mustangs. There is no word on that as of it.

On top of this excellent news of the 390 Horsepower 5.0 liter engine is the fact that the Boss Mustang is suppose to get the Shelby GT500 suspension and will also include some interior stripping to get the weight down, which has been a huge complaint from Mustang enthusiasts regarding the GT500.

Has Ford finally started to listen to their customers? If the Boss Mustang does make it into mass production it could very well be one of the hottest selling Mustangs to ever be produced. So Ford…. please don’t mess this up! This could very well be the car that breathes new life into a struggling company.

Link.

There is also going to be:
Ford Shelby GT 320hp v8
Ford SHelby GT-H (Same car but the Hertz Rental Version I was talking about).

At a quick glance, I was sure that it was a Datsun 240Z!

Wow, now that's a car! But you'd look an absolute tool driving that in the UK. Definitely a US only car. The fuel bill alone would be crippling.

Maybe, but Ford thinks it fits right in on the Autobahn.

Really?

My buddy's Ford Capri.

EDIT: The 1979 Ford Capri WAS switched to the Mustang platform and basically was a Ford Mustang w. different interior, taillights and grill... so I guess it's not too much of a stretch.

Wow. A Pontiac with a not-embarrassing grille. Hopefully that will inspire the rest of the Pontiac line.

A question I once heard is, "How will they update these retro cars?" at mid life cycle or to replace them years later. I can only imagine the retro looking cars will drop after one life cycle, replaced by other reincarnations. Goodbye PT Cruiser.

Apparently the feature is going to be dropped because it ended up costing a lot more then first thought and ther are some patent disputes...

Bummer, it'd be really nice to be able to change dash lighting.
