There have been a lot of "would someone in the US do something" posts here over the years. While I'm sure that the responders have no problem with helping out, I found this cool service that will do it for you:

Access USA

You actually get your own street address. I just thought it was a neat idea.

They also have a service where they will buy it for you with a US-based credit card for those companies that refuse to deal with non-US credit cards.

Obviously more expensive than getting a friend to help out, but if you can't find one or don't feel like bothering someone....

Edit: Here's a review which is not very complimentary, but has a list of other similar services.

Hmm. Thats pretty neat. I'm finding it hard to locate any review of the service though and it does sound like an ideal scheme if you're trying to scam people...

True enough.

Here's a review, and it's not too glowing. It does have links ot similar services.

Regardless of what company, though, good idea.

Isn't this "on-shipping", which is a great way to use stolen credit cards to buy stuff for yourself?

If it could be used legitimately, it would be a nice service. Companies should ship world wide in this global economy.

Generally speaking, credit cards will refuse transactions when the shipping address is not one listed on the account. Access USA specifically tells you to add the address they give you to the credit card account.

I've tried putting a second address on my CC account.

Except, MasterCard regularly choose to forget it was there - making the whole concept useless.

It always felt like they dropped it after the very next transaction.

Since you 'asked' I'd gladly pay somebody a reasonable fee to reship this $60 gearbox to the UK. The seller in Whittier, CA is adamant about "collection only" though!
