Reversing pin numbers

Is this true? We got it from a Canadian contact:

PIN NUMBER REVERSAL

If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse.

For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321.

The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine

The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.

This information was recently broadcast on CTV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

I checked with my Bank of Nova Scotia to see if this was correct and staff said yes this information is correct.

Please pass this along to everyone possible

Mind you, you could wait 'till hell freezes over in the UK: I reported an on-going problem in my village and you could have filled a book with the excuses for doing nothing!

I thought as much, I could think of too many faults!
Our Canadian friends should know that one of their government officials was taken in by it!

It's amazing how often this urban myth comes up.

Despite my pin being the same for years, I still sometimes stand there looking blankly at the keypad wondering what it is, with random numbers jumping in to add to the confusion. Imagine being forced to withdraw money and having to not only remember your pin, but enter it backwards!

Lets not forgot those who have palendromic pins!

The snopes article says the original plan for this included a solution for palendromic pins (apparently this myth was based on truth).

I gotta say, if someone has a gun to my head I'm not doing anything other than exactly what I'm told.
