You know, my wife overheard someone in the grocery store today complaining that the machine picked Romney when she wanted Obama, and she had to get someone to sort it out. I assumed it was user error, but maybe not
The machine at our polling place didn't look like that, though...
I wish we just had optical scanners. Send the ballots out, fill in the circles/complete the lines/whatever at home, take those into the voting station, scan them in and get a printed receipt that you can verify your choices while it keeps a printed receipt internal and locked. The potential for voter fraud with the current setup is just nauseating.
That could easily be a mis calibrated touch screen, as opposed to some nefarious chicanery. Still bad.
This is what I think too. The person who recorded it claimed that it would register a proper vote for the third party candidates, though I wonder why he didn't demonstrate this on video.

The user's description of the problem was quite detailed, and made it sound like it was NOT a miscalibrated touchscreen, but rather, the underlying software making it so that only the sliver of white between the buttons was what you had to click to get the Obama selection.
