This is a great story, thanks for posting! While I am not interested in stealing software, it gave me the idea to go to CompUSA to restore the file system on my iPod. You see, I have an iPod but I don't have a Mac. I corrupted the file system during a sync and the only way to fix it is to reload from a Mac. I will go to CompUSA and fix it. Thanks.

welcome...
the part I found interesting is that one of the main things people say about apple being better is how easy it is to install and uninstall things, but this article basically said that windows is better because you can't just copy programs already installed...
don't know if I agree, just thought it was funny...

There's nothing inherent in Windows that says install-by-copy can't work (with a tidge more programming effort). It's just that Macintosh users, like RiscOS users of yore, wouldn't put up with the sort of treatment by their applications that Windows users just roll over and acquiesce to.

PS. yes, something that's just a plug-in for another application (Geiss, for instance) must need some kind of installer as it's never directly run by the user. But that doesn't apply to applications like Office, which could quite easily offer install-type tasks on first run (or first run after move).

I use AudioGRabber to rip my mp3's... One of the selling points is that it cleanly installs in one folder. Painless!

Oh, and Roger, before you say anything, that does not constitute an offer to convert Emplode to use install-by-copy...

Oh, that is such a cool story. I so totally love it. I think I'm going to be grinning about that one all day.

I understand this, being a programmer for the windows environment, and I generally try to write all my programs so this is possible...I was just commenting on one of the general arguments that is used to say "mac is better"

At least with a showroom PC, it has a 1 in 2 chance of crashing when someone is trying to do this
