My karma is dead. After powering it on it just stays at the rio karma starting screen. It also clicks constantly and beeps about every 10 seconds.

I called the support line. Very fast answer by the way zero hold time. He had me try to reset the player by pressing the reset and menu while turning on the player. When trying that the player would not come on. We also tried to re-flash the firmware. The player will go into recovery mode but it is not detected by the karma flash utility.

Now I am waiting for rio to call me back. He said it would take 24 to 48 hours for them to call.

Dead disk I'd guess. That's certainly what most hard disks sound like when they give up. If the disk is OK recovery mode should ID it - if not, get an RMA.

That was my guess too but I guess I have to go through the procedure.

I didn't have the same problem, but mine did fail to boot one day. It would start up the Karma logo, then click and poweroff before the GUI loaded. After calling tech support, they told me to do the same thing (reflash the firmware), but I found that what actually cured it for me was to reflash the firmware with the "clear content" checkmark activated. Give that a try, and maybe it'll work for you too.

Thanks for the suggestion but I can't get that far the flash utility doesn't even see a player connected.

Rio emailed me telling me I have to return it to the place of purchase. I got it from amazon and their website says it take two [censored] weeks to process. I haven't had the thing a month now I have to wait two weeks to get it back what a load.

I've never understood that run around. Won't the unit be sent back to Rio eventually anyway? What's the point of sending it to Amazon?

My only guess would be is rio thinks they are helping me out doing it this way. This would be easier if I had gotten it at a local store but I didn't.

I should see if amazon would just give me a credit and go buy one a circuit city (the finally have them here).
