Help! Multiple Network Card Problem

Help! Multiple Network Card Problem - 10/05/2001 13:28

Just got my Dell Digital Audio Receiver, and can't seem to get it running.

I'm running WinME, and have two network cards running (ethernet that I use for my home-office peer-to-peer network AND the phone line PCI card that came with the receiver). The receiver "can not find the music server". I think I found the problem. I just can't find the solution.

In the Audio Receiver Manager software, when I click on "Tools" - "IP Configuration", it's listing the wrong network card in the pulldown menu. But, it is the only one there. I can't select the phone line adapter.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I don't own a PNA card, so this is just a stab in the dark:

Make sure the PNA card is visible in Control Panel/Network, and it's got a TCP driver bound to it.

Look in Control Panel/System on the "Device Manager" tab and see if there are any Little Yellow Boo-Boo Icons (official Microsoft name).

Hmmmmmm... Strange. I kinda found a fix. I shut down the software, turned the receiver on, then turned the software on, then turned off and on the receiver. Wow, is this really what one must do to listen to music? My RioReceiver is not plugged into the wall for power, it's plugged into the back of my normal stereo receiver. Could that have anything to do with it maybe?

Got it working. I guess it didn't like being plugged in to the back of my stereo receiver.

you mean the power supply coming off of the main stereo? That's an odd one if that was the cause of the problem...

I agree, but when I removed the power plug from the stereo receiver and plugged it directly into the surge protector, it solved my problem.

Do you have both cards set to "autoconfiguration"? If you are using 2 cards, both of which can't find a DHCP server and so they both autonet themselves, the PC can't work out where to send the data. You need to set one interface to a static address, probably.

Thanks for the advice altman. Once I stopped plugging the power in to my stereo receiver, it just started working. Not sure why, but I'm not going to question it. I'm just glad it works! :)
