Alternative facia for receiver

Alternative facia for receiver - 05/05/2003 06:59

While there are lots of alternative facia designs and stuff for the car player, there doesn't seem to be any for the receiver. Has anyone looked at how hard it would be to replace the facia? Any special things to watch out for?

You're volunteering to do the casting, then?

The LCD cable is very fragile and easy to break- that's the biggie. The glass is also custom, so replacing it won't be easier either

On the upside, you could replace it with a 128x64 VFD (Noritake do an intelligent module, though it will need a 5v PSU and care to ensure it doesn't feed 5v back into the very 3.3v CPU). This would then need light kernel mods to drive it correctly.

Just don't do what I did and manage to confuse 12v (which goes to the display board for some unknown reason) and ground, as you'll toast both the receiver and the display

I would well pay moolah for this, Hugo, if you could cottage-industry a few up for me.

I'd pay less moolah, but still some, just for a proper white-LED backlight a la Nokia.

Me too, I'd want two of them converted...

Just an idea ... but it wouldn't be hard to change tRio (and the other clients) to support a bigger LCD. 16 grey-scale would also be cool.

I'd pay moolah for a combined server/client software upgrade for the Central which remembered the Receiver's settings and playlist across a power outage. I couldn't care less about the display; having to reset everything each time we lose power is the only thing that I actively dislike about the receiver right now.

Lend me your Jupiter for a year and I'll do it...

I said I'd pay for it, not cut off my left arm for it.

re casting: was more interested in wood - the receiver is great, but fits only in in a very modern interior
