RIO Usage tip - 16/06/2003 00:40

OK - so after struggling w/ jreceiver/trio/rioplay/reza's rrr; and not having much luck actually navigating the music w/ any of them (comeon; I've got 10000 mp3's.. ever try sorting through that many??), here's my usage -

I'm running rioplay talking to jreceiver (although I'm not really using jreceiver.. ) here's how I *am* using it -

I'm also running streamsicle http://streamsicle.com/index.shtml

rioplay has two main stream configured in /etc/streams.cfg - the streamsicle url, and a second streamsicle url which is actually same url, with streamsicle's built-in sleep timer...

(SO -
<title>MVStream
http://powerhouse:4711
<title>MVStream (sleep 60)
http://powerhouse:4711/timer/60

Streamsicle has a very cool web interface which lets you 'request' songs or cd's, but plays randomly if you choose not to. It's very good about keeping the order of a cd and playing tracks in order if you choose to request an entire cd; and has features such as a quick search, and finding id3 tag info on current song/finding directory that the song came from and requesting more songs from it/etc..

..and if I want rio to go to sleep; I choose the second stream...

Check it out guys; definately worth looking at...

Does anyone know if streamsicle can be used with trio (like a shoutcast channel maybe?)? It looks pretty cool...

Given that they are recommending WinAmp as the best client I'm guess that the output is a Shoutcast stream. Just a guess though.

Re: RIO Usage tip - 19/06/2003 17:31

yeah; it's just standard shoutcast stream..

I'm having problems with higher bitrate files though; lots of clipping w/ the rioplay client (works fine w/ winamp..) works perfect for ~256kbit and below though..

update - no clipping w/ rioplay .28; but it clips w/ .29alpha2 (what changed?)

Hi All,

I'm new to this board so go easy on me. ;-)

I'm trying to use Streamsicle in a simular way as you. (RioPlay, ARM) [BTW, I think Streamsicle is very cool.]

I've been looking this board over and think my question may have been answered in another context, but thought I would ask again...

Is there any way to edit the 'streams.cfg' in RioPlay and replace the one supplied in the distribution TAR without having to build a linux box?

I've tried using WinRar w/o any luck.

I cant remember exactly but its something like this:
get a dos program TAR.exe

tar -tvf #list the files
tar -xvf streams.cfg #extract streams.cfg from .arf file
tar -dvf streams.cfg #to delete streams.cfg from arf file

modify streams.cfg as needed

tar -rvf streams.cfg #might need to specify full path

if you can't figure it out, send me the url that you want in streams.cfg and i'll be happy to build it for you.

First Post! Please don't be too cruel.
Have set up tRio (using ARM). Works fine.
Am now trying to link to Streamsicle & have set up pseudo radio station as follows in trio.xml
<station name="Streamsicle" url="http://playroom:4711"/>
Doesn't work, the shoutcast radio stations work OK though.
Has anyone done this? Any ideas what I've faoiled to do?
All advice appreciated
Tone
