rebadged dell? - 11/02/2004 14:34

What is the difference between a rebadged dell and a regular one, and how can you tell when you are bidding on one? I tried to look through posts and the only time I can find any thing about "rebadged" is about the 1.04 software.
The reason for my question is I have a silver Rio Receiver and I am trying to get another one but how do I know when I am looking on ebay, or elsewhere, if they are rebadged or not. I am using the ARM 1.03 and tRio.

A rebadged Dell and an original Dell look the same (i.e. black and Silver/grey with the display in the centre) apart from the Rio label that is stuck over the Dell logo.
They also differ in the firmware that displays the messages when you power up.
However, they are all compatible (Rio, Dell and rebaded Dell) so long as you use ARM 1.04 software. I (and several others on this forum) have them all working fine together on the same network.
You can download ARM1.04 from here , or get a CD from someone: I have some spares if you need one.

Cheers

One of 'em has an "info" button in the middle of the arrow circle on
the remote, the other doesn't. I've fiddled with my Trio config to
make that an 'enter' button,. This is more like the godly Tivo remote, and makes it less likely that you will hit 'cance'l; instead of 'enter'.
