Hacking/Mod effort?

Hacking/Mod effort? - 28/07/2001 21:29

Is there a web page, email group or index of people who are hacking the receiver? I'm curious about modifying the server, the display files and perhaps the receiver's code as well. I've seen the http://www.mock.com/receiver link, but I'm more interested in Windows.

Thanks,
Shawn

No there isn't - but this is the obvious place to host such a discussion.

I plan to rewrite the client software on the rio receiver side.
Basically, it should support the following features:
0) GPLed
1) Better UI
2) Play Shared Directories/Files (NFS/Samba)
3) PC-controllable (streaming, status etc).

Anyone interested in this?
I put up a project in sourceforge.

As far as the server side is concerned, I think the jreceiver is a good candidate. It supports linux/windows. But I could get it working yet.

I'm interested, however I don't have any time to help. NFS would obviously help, and PC-controllable would be nice too, although my PC isn't usually on (as distinguished from my server, which is on but doesn't have a monitor).

It'd be nice if you could tell a receiver in one room to start playing whatever a receiver in another room was playing (I have 4 of them, its annoying to have to reselect genres, whatever if I move around the house.)

It'd also be really cool if you could mark files from the receiver end as really bad (or broken) or maybe really good.

Also it needs to be able to handle 10,000+ tracks without exploding :-)

In regards to your server without a monitor:

I don't have a monitor on my server. Actually, its in my basement, away from my main computer. I use a free program called TightVNC (do a goolge search) to remote control my server. Its a small program that works very well. I'd recomend it.

Anytime I want to do anything on my server, I just fire up the VNC client, type in my password, and its like I'm sitting at my server.
