Network Sync of 2 Empegs?

Network Sync of 2 Empegs? - 10/08/2002 20:20

I couldn't see anything in the FAQ that pertains specifically to this, but if I have overlooked it, please point me to the error in my ways...

I would like to know if anyone has entertained (better still, done it!) a way to place 2 empegs on a local network and then run some sort of utility that effectively "clones" the contents of Empeg1 to Empeg2?

I ask because I am awaiting the arrival of my second unit, and while I will soon have a hardware backup, I would love to have a software replica as well, in the event of a disaster.

My Linux/Programming skills are substantially less than zero, so I am afraid I am not of much help in technically describing it, but I would assume there might be interest in something like this to "sync" one to another over a network?

TIA,

Rob

A one-time "big ass copy" operation can be done with FTP as described here.

You can also do an Rsync. I believe Roger has a complete guide on the procedure here.

I think I'll edit that FAQ entry to include a pointer to Roger's page....

netcat or rsync. Roger has instructions on his web site: Lazy Bastard's Guide to Cloning your empeg and Using rsync to Synchronise empegs.

Edit: Gotta learn to cut'n'paste faster....
