This is "neat". I guess I'll actually have to figure out why my handle's binding.

The unit when in the sled will rattle slightly, until I push the handle in snug against the unit. Very odd.

Anything come loose like the tiny springs that make it snap back? Or have you taken off the display board recently?

I've never taken the display board off on either of my units. Never had a reason to. The springs are both still attached but there's definitely some friction where the handle ends up if you don't push the handle in

And I guess it is snapping back, but it's bouncing back out slightly.

I saw, but I don't have an mpeg player on any of the machines in my office, so I can't watch and see if it's my problem. It was on my list for when I get home.

I've had that problem too with my Mk2a. I noticed the problem became worse if I screwed the fascia on more tightly. (noticed it first after a harddisk replacement)
So if I loosend the four screws a bit, the problem went away.

Ah, that's my problem - my fascia was misaligned so I loosened the screws and tried to reposition it but that didn't work, then I saw the new FAQ entry about loosening the side screws and tried that - made it a bit better but the handle then made a grating and pinging noise when closing - I loosened off the side screws again but I will loosen the *front* ones tomorrow and see if that fixes it. I can then do the side ones up tight and use the handle again!

Incidentally, this isn't the same problem. The handle doesn't stick anywhere, only in the last 3 millimetres of travel or so.

With the lens and faceplate off, it looks like the spring is more or less fully compressed over the angular movement it has when the handle is out those last 3 mm or so as it's retracting, so unless I push it in, the remaining spring tension is insufficient to pull in the handle... but it doesn't seem to be actually binding, it's just friction in the rotation.

Of course the vibration doesn't happen in the sled we just had installed in the other vehicle, for a reason which didn't occur to me until now.

The sled in the van doesn't have the "bumps" in it. The one in the car does. Guess what?
