Another Display wierdness. - 06/01/2003 20:03
OK... In the morning for the past month or so, When I power up in my car, the dimness is displaying at around 60-70%. When I go to display settings, it says dimmer at 100%, I roll it down to 90%, nothing - 80%, sometimes it changes, some times not - 70%, nothing, then roll it back up to 100%, and it really IS at 100%. Seemingly all day. For the record, my car is wired such that it completely killes the player when I crank the engine. As in, all voltage drops everywhere except the starter. Am I alone in this? It's not of critical importance, as I'm pretty good by now at resetting the brightness w/o even looking at the screen. Anyway...

Yup. <A HREF="http://empeg.comms.net/php/showprofile.php?Cat=&User=rmitz">rmitz</A> has the same problem; He pointed it out when I was in his car yesterday.
Of course since I have his spare to send back to carsupport I guess he's not going to worry about it just yet

Damn... Was hoping it was something else, as the player has been working fine for a year or so before exhibiting this behavior. Ordering Cap now.

The weather has probably gotten colder in the past month, which sets off the capacitor I believe. I had a wierd dimmer problem that was fixed with reflashing the kernel, but I still can't explain that one...

Would a 103M Disc Cap do the trick? (kinda hard to find SMT around here)

My screen consistently dims incorrectly when the unit gets left in the cold. When warm I have never experienced a problem. The problem is always fixed by pulling the unit out and putting back in. Annoying but it works while adjusting the dimmer settings doesn't always do it.

Ought to do it, as long as the value is correct and you have the space for it.
