Problem with display

Problem with display - 10/06/2003 07:50

Hello, I am looking for advise. I own Rio Player (Mk2), which worked fine for some months. Then It "died", ie. it was keeping resetting after about one second, with the display "dead".
I found out that my external power supply probably broke out.
I have replaced it, and now it works - except that only half of the
VFD works. Ie, the right half of the display is working correctly, and
the left half is not working.

Do you have any clue if it could be software problem (I could upgrade
the kernel) or a hardware problem? What could I check to find out
where the problem is? Any chances to get it repaired?

Thanks for your time,
Michal

only half of the VFD works. Ie, the right half of the display is working correctly, and the left half is not working.
This is a defect that can only be corrected by support. Right now, support is a bit backlogged, but definitely contact them about this ASAP.

I do not know if this is a problem in the display board or in the VFD glass itself. Yours is the third time I've seen it reported. Cambridge folks: Is this a board problem or a VFD problem? Can the fix be outlined here so I can FAQ it?

It's a VFD problem; one of the column driver chips embedded in the glass has died. Rare, but can happen. Only solution is to replace the VFD.

Thanks for the answer. Is it the only reason? Could it be also a software problem? It looks like I am having also software problem (look at a topic "Problem with uploading a kernel"), and just wonder if it could be related somehow.
