Trying to install my empeg, but ran into a problem

Trying to install my empeg, but ran into a problem - 12/12/2003 17:58

I know my deck has a Aux-In per the book. Now I am not sure HOW I can do this so it works well.

My deck is a Pioneer deh-p3300. I also have the XM going into it by the IP-BUS which per the book says that is used as the aux-in? Now if that was used as the Aux-In how can I have both my XM and empeg work? It says I can get a adapter to adapt a RCA input to the IP-BUS, but my XM again is going through that channel. Anyone else here have a Pioneer deck with the same situtation?

I think I can get it to work by using the output RCA the deck has to the AUX in of the MP3 to get my radio stuff and XM but that seems a bit more of a pain to do when I want to use the XM or radio. Let me know guys!

Greetings!

Does the XM have any inputs? Otherwise, you may need to run the XM via IP-BUS to your radio, and then your radio to the car player's inputs. You would need to rewire / get an amp for that configuration.

The problem sounds like the Pioneer will accept either the IP-BUS or RCA in, but not both at the same time. You need either two inputs into the radio, a switch or you need to daisy chain all three devices in series.

Does your XM radio have an RCA out? Perhaps an RCA switch on the input of your Pioneer...

I'm not exactly sure how this works, but there is the CD-RB20 which adds RCA in, with IP-Bus pass-through. I have a CD-RB10 which is RCA only, no IP-Bus, and it works well. You may want to contact Pioneer to see how exactly it works. Does it select which ever signal is "on", or does it only function for the CD changers. Just a little help for ya!

BTW, don't cross post!

edit: Google turned up this place which sells them, and mentions that "provides RCA preamp inputs as well as another IP-Bus connector for a CD changer or other IP-Bus peripheral." Which makes me think you should have no problem with it!

The Aux in adapter Pioneer uses also has an IP-in connector. So you can daisy-chain your XM to the aux-in adapter. (which in it's turn is connected to the IP connector on the HU). Everything then runs via the IP bus.

Once this whole setup is connected, I suspect a new setting on your HU will show up, which will let you choose which channel you'd like to hear the sound of.

Just for the record : I don't have an XP module, but I HAVE got an IP aux-in adapter, so I've seen this extra IP-input on the aux-in module.

To what I can find the RB20 is what I need I think. I do not have any RCA inputs on my deck. It has a IP-BUS which my XM goes through. The only way the XM will work actually. To what I can tell if I get this device, it will pass the XM through when I have my deck in XM mode, or pass the RCA through when I am in AUX in mode. I guess I need to spend another $60 bucks. eek. Anyone else have this setup?

Greetings!

Reading the link you had for the RB20, that one looks correct. The RB10 seems to be one input or the other. If the RB20 allows for the passthrough.

Doing a quick google for "CD-RB20", I am finding a lot of different places selling them on the web, many for significantly less than your original link. You might be able to find one for the same price you paid for the RB10.

A little searching goes a long way...

I had not realized that folks on this board have actually discussed this previously, and even posted the schematic for the RB20...

Cool...

The CD-RB10 will also do RCA out, fwiw. I have one attached to a Pioneer XM unit which was used to feed the AUX in on an empeg. Worked nicely.

Russ, I'm using the CD-RB10 in both of my vehicles. The CD-RB20 should work exactly as you described and will be what you want to get. The $60 isn't bad when you compare it with the cost of a new amp.

By the way, what did you end up getting? Did you get the RB20?

I purchased the RB20 from etronics.com. It was 48.95 I believe. I did 2-3 days for delivery, so I hope to have it soon. I just need to wire the empeg to my pioneer power so I can get it some juice and have it ready!
