IR receiver is buggy

IR receiver is buggy - 22/03/2004 00:24

Newbie here...having the remote problem as many have experienced, but I've tried all items listed in the faq and the Rio remote works fine (pulses correctly with digicam, battery is new). The remote works for about 5 minutes and then the player doesnt respond. If I put the remote within an inch of the IR receiver, it responds sometimes, but is figity. Anyone replace this item before?

Greetings!

There were some threads about this, but it is a rather difficult repair. All of the threads I saw (and most are old threads involving Mark2s) show people sending it back for service. It is not an unknown problem - there are a few instances documented on the board.

I have spare IR receivers here. Replacing this item can be tricky because it is in a very tight space where it is mounted. I can mail you one for $5 (paypal to paypal@rtr.ca), or you can mail me your displayboard (not the whole Empeg), and I'll replace the part for you for a fee (TBD). Hopefully it's just that part, and not the remote itself (easy to verify with another Empeg).

Cheers

Where are you located? Canada?

How hard is it to replace? Soldering involved?

Thanks for all the responses.

Yes, soldering is required. And the receiver mounts in the area of a stacked daughterboard, which complicates life. If you are good at soldering, go for it. If not, then you may destroy the displayboard.

Yeah, that kinda narrows it down a little. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Good to know...I'll have to open it up and see it myself.

I'll keep you posted.
