Empeg Become Garbled And Cannot Display Any Character But Have Power - 23/10/2004 05:34
I had changed the IC (ICT 18CV8-25) recently bcoz it has blowed. The technician at my local shop successfully do it for me bcoz i have no skill to install that tiny IC on Empeg. But there was another problem. The display cannot working very well (garbled). It has power but cannot display any character. I attach the file here (AVI DivX file showing the problem)
All 3 fuses are in good condition. The display VFD in good shape too. Remote sensor & volume switch also work fine. Can the display cable cause this problem?
Or is there any other IC can cause the display cannot working perfectly? Where can i get the diagram of Empeg board? The technician cannot check it without the diagram. I really love my Empeg. Please help ASAP.

An ICT 18CV8-25 is likely to be programmable logic - part number sounds like it. Did you get a preprogrammed one? If you didn't, it will never work.
BTW: Your AVI was probably too big to attach.

Sounds like a blown display fuse. There are three of them very near to where the display plugs into the mainboard. Check the FAQ for photos.

We sent him the one he used. Yes, they are preprogrammed with Empeg code.

He says the fuses are good in his post. I've seen the video. Basically, it gives little blips of random nondescript images. He has now conceded that the display cable is in bad shape- definitely a likely culprit.

Stu, maybe there is a need for replacement display cables similar to the IDE cables that you provide. Though maybe a little longer to avoid the sled... or maybe round and a lot longer to get completely out of the way.

The display cable is soldered directly to the display board. It's not even remotely as easy to change out as the IDE cable.

Nope. Mark Lord's apparently done it a few times, but replacing the cable or soldering a header on is equally difficult. More or less. Just makes it easy the next time.

Stuart, can the display cable cause this problem? u have seen the video, what do u think? All 3 fuses in a good shape. Can i get the replacement display cable & IC from u? I will pay u include the delivery cost. By the way, i've seen another 2 IC on Empeg board. It is the same IC code on display board. All with same program? I will email the video files on request bcoz the file size more than 1mb.
