Replace the rotary knob by ... ? - 01/03/2005 13:27

Dear,

Since a couple of weeks/month the rotary knob is increasing the volume not step by step but it increases the volume by 3. 5 10 db at a time.
In example the volume is at 30db. I want to increase the volume, turn the rotary knob with one, two or three "click" and the volume increases in some worst case to Overdrive !!

I already changed the plastic button itseld but now I think it is more a hardware failure.

So I want to exchange this rotary knob by a new one but I really dont know which component I need to buy and wher...

My second question is: Is there a hard disk size limit ? I mean, can I install 2 hard disk 100Gb each ? Actually I have a 12Gb and an additional one of 40Gb.

Any help is very usefull..

Regards,
David

Greetings!

It sounds like the rotary encoder is bad. It happens, especially over time. Do you have a Mark2 (empeg) or Mark2a (RioCar)? It matters - different encoders, but they can be replaced. Two different threads: 1 2 and a FAQ entry.

As to storage space, 200GB is the current max using laptop hard drives.

I have a Mark2 player (still sold by EMPEG).

Do you know where and what I can buy to replace this rotary encoder ? I leave in switzerland and depending the price of the stuff I will better have to find it somewhere here insetead of buying in another country which will certeainly cost a lot with the shipping.

If you are in Europe, your best bet is to contact RobS for support. He has encoders and can do the replacement work for you - it is an extremely tricky repair and he is authorized to do the repairs on the empegs. Send him an email.

When you send it in, ask Rob about the possibility of upgrading the encoder to a Mark 2a encoder as part of the job. It's what I did to my player, and I'm very happy I did. I like the 2a encoder much better.
