Loose screw inside Empeg now player will not boot in car - 26/12/2006 01:45

My girlfriends Empeg player died when she hit a bumb going down the road the other day. when we put it in my sled to see if it was her wiring or the player it wouldn't play in my car either so we figured player. When I then put my unit back in mine wouldn't play either and it did just minutes before I put hers in. So when I opened her player I found a hard drive screw loose in the player it was near the dc plug stuck between the chassis and the board. I plugged the player in the home dc plug and both of them work fine but when we plug either one into either car they both don't work we have also checked the fuses in the car and they are fine.....any suggestions?

Did you check the fuse in the empeg wiring harness? Otherwise, check the pins on the sled, but the lose screw definitely points to a blown fuse. A MkII will play with a dead fuse, but a MkIIa(rio car) will not, if you've got a selection to test with.

It's common for this problem (loose screw inside player) to permanently damage certain components that will need to be replaced on the motherboard. This has happened before. If you can't find any blown fuses, please contact either support or eutronix and see if they can help you.

I doubt his player needs to be fixed. Sounds like a fuse he hasn't found yet.

Have you checked the car's fuses in addition to the ones in the stereo-specific wiring?

But my player didn't have anything wrong with it and it stopped working as well except when plugged in in the house. I checked her wiring and saw that little 3 volt blade fuse but it didn't look blown to me. Is that the fuse we're talking about? in the wiring harness that is. Is there another fuse besides the the little blade fuse that sits on that little black box a little ways down the wiring harness? or is it another fuse I am missing....I have a 1987 Suburban and I checked my radio fuse and it was not blown but I have not removed my sled yet to check the wiring yet.

To make absolutely certain, check voltage on the wires going to the sled: Constant and ignition-switched.

I found it...it was the in line fuse coming from the sled....I still had the stock fuses and they are kind of hard to tell if the wire is burnt at the edge which in my case it was. I replaced them with new clear fuses and it works great....thanks guys....
