Next up is SPDIF. smile

should have used thinner wire and cleaned the fluxoff with alcohol

where did you get the chips ?

The flux's ok... my player came with flux covered chips from factory and has been fine for years. smile

Chips are from Stu. Thanks Stu! (for your guide too)

Nice job! Funny how close-up photos make the wire look HUGE. smile

But I would followup on the suggestion to gently swab the area with a Q-tip or three dabbed in alcohol.

Cheers

I'm a paranoid sucker for punishment. laugh

RAS lead replaced and on the hunt for some isopropyl alcohol. Thanks for your comments.

Actually, the memory guide was done mostly by Michael Davey with a few rehashes from some of our other manuals and some photographic contributions.

This is probably a silly question... but what advantage is gained by adding memory?

Not much. Except it should help quite a bit with large drives
(eg. the commonplace 250GB drives).

A large drive means a large filesystem.
Which means larger kernel data structures in RAM.
Which means less RAM for the player to buffer with,
unless memory is added.

Or so the theory goes.

My drives spin up less frequently since the upgrade. The Mk2's 12 MB gets a bit strained with 2.0 and Hijack loaded...
