jEmplode help

I am looking for a cleaner way to manage music on the Empeg. I am running Windows 7, have installed Java, and dl'd the jemplode thing, and cannot seem to get it to work...is there a 'step-by-step' available for an idiot such as myself?

What's not working?

Can it not find the empeg at all? How is the empeg attached? USB or Ethernet? If Ethernet, does it get a network address properly?

Or is it failing later? Getting the playlists? Uploading tracks?

In summary, be more specific.

I cannot get jEmplode to launch. I cannot find an exe file nor the file they mention on the download page. I am using ethernet, and Emplode 2.0 seems to find it ok. Gets an ip and all

jemplode is a java application and as such it's a .jar file. It's not a standalone .exe and requires what is essentially an interpreter. So think of it like a Word document or something. You need to run Word to view/edit the document.

You need to have the Java Runtime Environment installed (JRE) and then .jar files should be associated with it.

At worst if the .jar is not associated properly with anything double click the program and choose which application you want to use. Then browse to the Program Files/Java/jrexxxxxx directory and select javaw.exe to run the .jar file.

Just to hijack this thread for a second, I wasn't able to get USB connection working with jemplode on Windows 7, although it works fine with emplode. I only have a MK1 so ethernet isn't an option. Anyone know of why the USB component wouldn't work under Windows 7?

I do not find a .jar file after downloading and unzipping the package using the link at the top of this page. Is there something else I need to do?

The first link is to Sun's page for Java with instructions. The second link is to:

Not sure what you are doing wrong or what you are unzipping. There's nothing to unzip.

I got it working. The problem was that it was downloading as a zip (or rater WinRAR file). When I saved it as a .jar file it seems to have worked.

Ah. Maybe what happened is that WinRar got associated with the ".jar" extension, maybe? It's in the WinRar settings...

As it says on the web page, it hasn't been worked on in a while (pre-vista) so it could possibly be incompatible with Win7. Is there a chance that you're running the 64-bit edition of Win7? That might be it, too. I'll bet that DLL only works in 32-bit Windows.

I wonder if it would work if you ran a 32-bit XP session in a VM. Or even, tried running Jemplode or the JRE in XP compatibility mode (not sure how to pull that off exactly).

A .jar file is just a zip of all the individual files. It's the download manager that's braindead -- it scans the first few bytes of the file, sees the magic number for a .zip file, and passes it off to be unzipped.

Before going to all that trouble, install the 32-bit version of the JRE. That should be sufficient.

I also wonder if it's just a matter of putting the Jemplode.dll file in the right folder. As Mike said, it's just a wrapper for the Emplode USB driver, and he said that Emplode works OK via USB on his system.

I'd be surprised if the driver even works under W7.

That's my point: He says the driver already works under Windows 7 for him. Emplode can communicate with the player fine over USB.

Since the Jemplode.DLL is just a wrapper for the Empeg driver, then that should work too.

It's only 32bit Windows 7. I've tried putting the dll in windows\system32 and the directory I was running Jemplode from, and neither seemed to work. It's not really a big deal, i can do most of what I wanted with Emplode, however I couldn't find any way to find orphaned files using Emplode, only instructions on how to do it in Jemplode

Try putting the DLL in the same folder as the Java Runtime Engine. That's what it says to do on the Jemplode page.

An orphaned file search is the same in both Jemplode and Emplode. Advanced search for Refs=0 .

Oh right, yes, I did try putting it in the JRE folder as well to no avail.

I couldn't find the advanced search option in Emplode, guess I just need to look harder. Thanks for your help
