Dead Link / Additional advise for Standby issue - 03/08/2011 09:50

There is a dead link found under:
http://www.riocar.org/modules.php?op=mod...mp;faqent=87#87
DEAD LINK:
http://empeg.comms.net/php/showflat.php?...rt=all&vc=1

Full story for whom is willing to read:
After pimping my dashboard, followed by some wiring nightmare my most precious MK2 stopped going into standby mode and now switches off immediately.
Initially there was a loose 12V cable from the sled (Pin #8) which I did solder on again. And it did work. But after some excessive power-on and offs (I was testing some other stuff...) it stopped going into standby completely.

What I did to resolve this issue:

Double checked the wiring.
Checked if 12V is really provided.
Checked the external fuse attached on the empeg harness.
Read the FAQ
Connected to Emplode
Changed "Standby"Time from 60 to 20 sec.
Synced

What I intend to do:
triple check the wiring
Check if a diode or a transistor in my player has been blown. -> Please if you could resurrect the dead link or animate it's content back to live. In order to see, for which diodes and transistors I have to look out in the player?

And lastly for those who read through my gibberish:
A BIG HONEST THANK YOU TO THE EMPEG COMMUNITY! I REALLY LOOOOVE MY EMPEG AND THE AID AND SUPPORT I WAS GIVEN HERE ON THIS PLATFORM IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

Thank you!
KeN

Thanks for the notice. The correct link is:
http://empegbbs.com/ubbthreads/showflat....rt=all&vc=1

I should probably do a full dump of the FAQ soon, and check if any other entries still point to the now dead empeg.comms.net domain.

I was just in the Developer Info section looking for info on the telephone mute line (which apparently connects to pin 1 of the serial port) and there wee a bunch of broken comms.net links.

Oh, and for Tony F., don't worry about going through the interface you use on the FAQ to correct any other bad empeg BBS links in the system. I'm going to just go through the raw SQL dump, do a search and replace, and then reimport it. Should save a bit of effort.

Ok I might just have found the source of my problem, please confirm:

The Yellow sled wire connected to constant 12-volt power source. (The one with the external fuse attached) goes to pin NR 1 the one on the very left ->NOT Pin 8 right?

As mentioned above, I might have mistakingly soldered the 12V yellow wire to the Pin Nr 8 which, according to the FAQ belongs to the serial cable. (Which the previous owner must have removed.)
I pray that this mistake did not cause any harm to my most precious piece of equipment...
There was much interference also, which I believe came from having the 12V power from the ignition only. Would also explain the loud click noise, while turning off ignition. And ofcourse the missing standby functionality.

Anyhow, I tested the serial connection on my PC (without harness / sled) ->Working connection on serial...
No sound distortion on L/R audio cinch ->while attached to my home stereo...

I might just got lucky on this one ;-)

IF ONE COULD CONFIRM THAT THE YELLOW, CONSTANT 12V SOURCE GOES TO PIN 1?! That would be great!

I'm a bit scared to solder the 12V source to the wrong PIN and fubar the whole thing in the process...

Cheers KeN

It goes to pin 1 on the sled connector, from pin 4 on the ISO connector, see the wiring diagram

Thanks for the hint. So advice is a noun and advise is a verb. Didn't know that. Thought that was a UK, US thing...

I'll be away now, soldering stuff. Report back later ;-)

All the empeg.comms.net references on RioCar.org should now properly go to empegbbs.com, and in theory, all the correct posts they initially pointed to. In total, there were 63 places changed, and 24MB worth of spam cleared out of the DB.

Most amusing thing I found in the DB was someone claiming to be "THEHACKER", with a marquee message. I double checked, and it was inserted in 2006, not 1995. Must have been a fan of IE 2 or something. smile
