has any body tried converting the IDE in the Empeg to a Sata? so you can run a SSD hard drive in it?

as this will fix the problem of hard drives going bad because of vibration.

You can still get PATA SSD drives. For example. I recently put one of the Transcend ones in my mk2a.

I am also interested in this question; I am considering something like this:

as SATA discs are much cheaper, and PATA is not going to get easier to find in the future. Plus I want to go to SSD, and again, the SATA variants are significantly cheaper.

I'm thinking I can fit this by mounting only a single disc sideways on the HDD tray.

These have been discussed before. Cheaper than an SSD. Errr no they aren't, lots of ssd's are cheaper than cf+adapter

Hi,

Transcend is manufacturing PATA-SSDs now:

I don't know if the SSDs will work in the empeg...

They have been for a while -- see (at least) my post from August 2011 in this thread. They work fine in the empeg.

CF-Cards + adapters beat those on price and very likely equal them on performance inside an empeg.

my 320gb pata drive in my main empeg has been throwing occasional block errors and so i'm at least thinking about this now; assuming i need at least 240gb, what's going to win on a price standpoint these days? probably actually just keep buying 320gb laptop drives at $99/pop

until either SSD or CF prices drop?
