Tuner Bug somewhere between hiJack 5.05 and 5.08

Tuner Bug somewhere between hiJack 5.05 and 5.08 - 10/07/2013 15:38

while upgrading my player to a CF card to replace the HDD....

in the midst of playing with the 2 units I have (one spare) -- it turns out the spare works fine with either PCATS or Empeg tuner (on my desk) showing full signal and RDS with a nearby station while my functional unit does not.

the difference??

One was running an older version of hiJack (5.04) and I upgraded it to 5.15 and the same "no signal/poor reception" problem cropped up on the once fine player.

I only have 5.04, 5.05, 5.08 and 5.15 to play with.

the problem is somewhere between 5.05 and 5.08 (5.08 is broken, 5.05 works fine)

Mark? Little help?

From emails with Ben, the problem appears to begin with Hijack v506, and is in all subsequent versions.

Except I don't have the problem here myself.

Anyone else with a Tuner (factory or PCATS) with Hijack v506 or newer? Does the radio work?

thanks.

Is there some kind of diff or changelog that you can check to see what changed in that release? Some of those releases you only changed a few lines of code.

Just the I2C stuff changed, which in theory should not affect the tuner at all. But somehow it does. v505 is fine according to Ben (the OP), yet v506 does not seem to have working AGC on his tuner.

The only changes there are all I2C stuff -- I added (heretofore missing) locking to the driver, and tightened up the timing here and there. This mostly affects the DSP chip, which is used for just about everything inside an empeg.

The tuner is controlled by an unrelated serial port.

5.15 broke both my tuner modules (one original with replacement RF module, one PCATS). Spent ages looking for hardware and wiring faults to no avail. Reverted to Hijack 5.05 and working fine.

I have my spare unit still out ready to be scoped as Mark directs (if needed)

If I do anything, it'll be just a simple/total revert of the I2C changes in v506+. But I'm trying to remember why I thought it necessary to add proper locking to the driver.. guarding against something, but what?

Probably unnecessary, unless a third-party app (or Hijack feature?) wants to do I2C accesses without colliding with the main player app..

It didn't have anything to do with the Fan/Temp Sensor I made so long ago, would it?

Oh, BTW -- I have my spare unit on my desk ready for testing.

I have both the factory and PCATS tuners (both fail the same way though).

just thought I'd check in to see if there were any updates to this...

let me know since I still have one of my Empegs out on the bench for testing.

Latest Hijack has this fixed now.
