Emplode crashes when selecting album for deletion

Emplode crashes when selecting album for deletion - 14/09/2015 04:34

This is strange.

When I select an album for deletion (right click, 'Delete') and click 'Yes' to the confirm dialog, I get:

"Rio emplode has stopped working", which is a Windows error message window.

Windows 7 Home Premium, SP 1

emplode version: 2.0
empeg Mk2, ver 2.01 with latest Hijack, 16MB, 20+20GB

Connection is via ethernet.

I'll search the forums some more, but my first pass didn't find anything.

See if individual songs within that album cause the same issue. See if it's one particular song.

It might have been one particular song, but we'll never know. I tried it on my SUSE box with Wine running emplode, and successfully removed the album by selecting the icon in the left hand pane and then hitting the red "X" to delete.

I've since learned that there's no need to delete an album in this way. I can select all the tracks in that album in the right hand pane, and delete them. Then, emplode gets rid of the album icon in the left hand pane for me.

Baby steps!

Emplode works in WINE ??

Well, sort of. It did what I wanted (deleted a particular album by selecting it in the left hand panel and deleting). It completes the task in question on the empeg, but hangs on the "Getting player version information" step during sync. Seems like it does the hard stuff, then fails to talk nice with the empeg after it restarts.

But, I think you knew that... :-)

Ah yeah. There's two different kinds of organization levels in that left hand pane.

One of them is the playlist folders (yellow folder icons), the other is the artists/albums view (little blue heads icons etc), nicknamed the "Soup View". So it depends on how you're looking at it. Have a look at this to help understand:

http://www.riocar.org/modules.php?op=mod...;faqent=143#143

The relevant part here is that if you had a playlist folder containing those tracks, and then you delete some individual tracks (or delete the tracks from the soup view, which is what it sounds like you did), then that would leave the empty playlist folder behind, still.

What exactly caused the program crash, I don't know, but I'm glad you found a work around which keeps the program from crashing.

You could probably just as easily blame C.

Reminds me of how Sting introduced "Murder By Numbers" in his live show.

He tells the tale of being in the US on tour, and seeing Jimmy Swaggart on television, ranting about Murder By Numbers, which was a bonus track on the cassette version of Synchronicity, since it didn't fit on the vinyl LP.

Sting did a great impression of Jimmy Swaggart:

I feel bad for not contributing to the current direction of this thread. I'm such a dullard. Anyway, I discovered a fix to the "emplode crashing" problem:

Use jemplode.

Heh, I found a recording of sting introducing the song approximately that way, the way I saw him do it back on the Nothing Like the Sun tour. Strangely it's with him doing an unexpected drop-in with Frank Zappa a while back:

Somewhat embarrassingly, this is biting me in the ass today...

I am unable to use emplode to delete more than a couple of albums at a time without the player binary dying and emplode crashing.

I've got stack traces (of both) if that'd be useful to anyone... No? I guess not.

Stack traces. Let's see. Those are useful to people who have the source code, right? smile

source? I thought we decided emplode and the car player were evidence of Boltzmann brains?
